ANyOne using Headmen Headers???

Before too long from now ill have my new motor. Im going to be getting the Headmen Headers with the Headmen Y pipe that is made for the thirdgen F-Bodys. Now the headers say that they are not street leagel. But i think i can get away with it if i still have a cat, and a muffler...

Will the headmen headers and Y pipe go in the stock locations or is it all new and custom? can i get a pipe bent from the Y pipe going to a Hi FLow cat?

Or how is the exhaust going to work? I already have a dyno max 3" cat back system....

Hedman (not "Headmen") makes their shorties in both non-legal and legal versions. The y-pipe is made to go from their hedders (not "headers" for their brand - okay, that's a nit) to the cat. It goes basically through the stock route, but won't fit any stock parts (except factory TPI single 3" inlet cat).

The "legal" part is emissions, not safety. So, if you don't have computerized controls (read: O2 sensor), then the emissions legal part isn't an issue, and therefore neither is "street" legal.

BTW, the only reason I got nit-picky on the spelling is for search purposes. If you search on "Headmen", you probably won't come up with anything (except this thread - now). However, "Hedman" will produce several hits.

Actually, their y-pipe may be 2-1/2" at the cat. Better check that out.

Hooker 2055's are 3" at the cat.

The Hedmans are great for the price. For around $200 you can get the shorties (1 5/8" primarys/2.5" collectors/non-legal) and their y-pipe (2.5" collectors/3"out). the Hedman y-pipe gets progrssivly bigger torwards the cat until it reaches 3". It should slip right onto your stock or aftermarket exhaust that is made for the car. I'm going with those parts by Hedman, a hi-flo 3" cat, and a Mac 3" cat-back. I'll have the catback the weekend of the 28th and I hope to put it on then if whether holds up.

five7kid... thanks

So I should be alright getting the HEDMEN HEDDERS. Ill get a new Hi Flow cat, take out the emmissions junk, air pump and all that.. then have it hooked up to my dynomax exhaust....

is there anyway to tell that those headers are not legel just by looking at them. when i get the car checked i dont want them to say THOSE ARE NOT FOR THE STREET or some BS like that...

WIll these headers get me by a visual test?

My collectors are 3", not 2 1/2. The y-pipe is 2 1/2 and comes with a peice that allows it to fit different sized cats. The y-pipe also goes the stock route so you can bolt it right up with no custom work. Good headers so far, I'm even using the cracked-up paper gaskets that came with it without any leaks yet.

Without the A.I.R., it would be obvious they are not emissions legal. If the inspector has any kind of a clue, he'll see that and fail you. If you get the ones with A.I.R., Hedman will include a sticker or certificate that they are legal (it's a welded-on metal tag on the Hookers).

Does the hedders or y-pipe come with the o2 bung, or will I have to weld one in?

I am thinking of going the same route. Have the hedders rusted any yet or did you paint, or have them coated?

The headers and y-pipe come painted with that crappy black paint that you can scratch off with your fingers. It kind of bakes on there after running the car for awhile but still doesn't do much to stop any rust but I'm not concerned with these headers rusting out because my car has "bigger and better" plans in the near future. They came with no O2 bung so you'll need to weld one in. On a scale of 1-10 I give these headers a 8 1/2, you really can't beat them for the price.
