exhaust fabrication

I know this one falls in between this forum and the exhaust one but here it is.With the ground clearance issues of a side exiting or dual exhaust what does everybody think of this?Could the exhaust be made in a flat ducting style, say 1" deep by 8" wide(a total guess at the size required),greatly lowering the profile. This would be fairly straightforward to fabricate. With the fact of the minimal ground clearance and the need for mandrel bends, this seems like a good idea to me.What does anyone else think?

By the way there is a guy here in the UK who was running high 8's on a street legal(treaded tyres, muffler, pump gas) car with this type of exhaust.

it would work but your gonna have to go from a circle to a oval and that might get hard but ive seen it done. nasecar has it

Hey I've got a thread running in the exhaust board similar to this topic if you wanna check it out.
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=225068

Also for that nascar style idea, you might wanna check this page out. It has some cool stuff for that route. But I gotta warn you that when you find prices for these items, they aren't cheap!
Dr. Gas Nascar Catalog

Hope this helps

ive had that idea for a while though, but in this state your exaust has to exit past the rear axel (unless it came factory with dumps or side pipes) so i canned that real quick. i know spintech maks the oval pipes for it. i think they have a kit but its for 1st gens. they dont do much 3rd gen stuff

OK that's 2! C'mon I know more people wouldn't mind this. Then we can send a request email to them for possible production

P.S. Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread eric, I'm just really passionate about another company mass producing a new & improved exhaust system that we all have similar ideas in

nascar uses oval pipe. They even have x-pipes made of it and then going into a flat chamber they call a "boom tube". I don't know the science of those, but it's so gnarly sounding cops would come to your house from 15 miles away to give you ticket. just not practical for a street car.

yeah, this is halarious imo. this is obviously a hot ticket. i agree with trying to get a company to mass produce it. my progress stands as i am going to finish the crossmember for more pipe clearence, then bolting up the collectors one more time, mounting the muffler again, and transitioning the collectors to the muffler, then setting my side pipes in place, making all the mounts and adding the hardware(bolts, rubber, etc.) right now, the muffler sits about 1/2 higher than the collectors on my heddman long tubes. just takes time and money, you all know where i'm coming from on that. i am writing out directions for the whole project so when i get it done, maybe a new sticky on here, or a tech bullitin. thanks, patrick:yourock:

I just don't think that anybody's gonna mass produce a true dual system for our cars because of the many different engine/tranny combo's and the use of various sfc's. Nobody want's to deal with people calling back complaining about things not fitting like they should. I think that's why we're stuck with trying to find a good local exhaust shop that's willing to do it.
Which means piecing one together myself since nobody in my area has a mandrel bender or capability to make oval and oval transitions like I will need.

I'd **** my pants from both shock and joy if dr. gas said they were offering a 3" dual x system with oval pipes, cruzer series mufflers, and dumps for thirdgens with hooker longtubes, T56, and alston & spohn sfc's combos.

I gotta find access to a mandrel bender and a pipe roller (or whatever piece of equipement that's used to ovalize pipe) cause my hemmoroids immediately start hurting when I add up the price to buy the exhaust pieces I need.

You got that right! I almost fell out of my seat after seeing the prices for the oval piping, x-pipes, transitions, etc. Good looking stuff though, that Dr. Gas has in the Nascar section
