New Intake

I want to modify my intake so that the clean box is getting air forced into better than it is right now. the set up right now is pretty weak and i think that i can get a little more hp by increaseing the air flow. so what i thought of doing is extending the air box/tubes so that they scoop air from under the car. anyone done this before or think it is possible to do myself? otherwise do you know of any kits that are realtively cheap that can be used to set up my intake like this. i figure the cheapest way to gain some hp is to fix that crappy intake system on my firebird. thank

There is a tech article about how to do this somewhere on this site. Do a search.

Yep. They are pretty easy to make, so alot of cars have them. On 3rdgens they are usually routed to either above the battery, or the same place on the opposite side of the car.

Just curious but would the ram air ducts block your airflow through the radiator?
That is the only place outside air is routed through to the radiator.

Mathius, isn't that only good of the camaro intake setup? my intake just runs to the passenger side of the engine bay and sits in the cleaner box. there is no split in the intake hoseing. or is that what is being fabricated? thanks

No, they are different, there's no split on Firebirds, and that is not being fabricated here.

Here's an idea for a ramair scoop system I am planning on making myself:
http://www.geocities.com/91formula/ramair.html

I'm gonna route the output from the scoop into the intake of the standard airbox on the firebird.
