Trailer hitch

I'm going off to college in October and I don't think my T/A is gunna hold all of my belongings.. Just wondering if any of you have heard of someone installing a trailer hitch on a 3rd gen..

I was thinking something removable because this will be the only time I'll ever need it, and we're talking a very very small trailer, like a u-haul type thing, big enough to carry a military crate..

Suggestions or ideas?

I've seen a guy pulling his yard equipment on trailer behind a 3rd gen. I bought a hitch for my Tahoe a few years ago from etrailer.com. Check them and ebay.

Curt Manufacturing part number 11117 fits a 91 Formula just fine. Bolts on. Try www.curtmfg.com, or your local trailer hitch supplier (I used Joe's Trailer Hitches and Truck Supplies in Plano, TX). I just got a Class I (up to 2500 pounds capacity) since I just have a little pickup box trailer I have to use once or twice a year. This is a 1.25" receiver hitch so the ball is not sticking out from under the bumber all the time. Works great!

Have a Great Day!!!

I think hidden hitch makes one as well.

My parents are weird. When they owned my old 87 formy they put a class III on the back and towed their old 21' boat. Baaaaad; but it did it. Looked like a barbie set showing up at the launch, bright red firebird and bright red trimmed boat.

I know a couple of autox’ers that tow a small trailer with a couple of sets of tires, shop jack, tools… with one. There’s a few choices out there, the issue becomes what exhaust does it clear.

true true. my hitch was already in the car when the dude i bought my car from did his "custom" exhaust. getting the hitch out required some major pulling sideways of the 3" pipes which just happened to be right under the hitch bracketry...

I betcha Reese makes one too. Likely at least a Class 1, if not Class I and II.

The Reese hitches are pretty good stuff, and are pretty cheap. Where I work, most Class I hitches go for around $140 (cdn) and Class II around $160 (cdn).

I've never actually had to look one up for an F-body though, so I dunno for sure if they do make one for it.

I have seen alot with them, I saw a hidden one on a 87 formula, I think the only way I would put one on my car would be to tow my buddies 5.0

The best way I have seen is a custom built hidden hitch. I've seen it on a 3rd gen in the local SCCA group (for driving to the track without a chase vehicle). He took a second gen rear licence plate holder (they flip down to get gas in them) and cut a hole behind the plate area in the 3rd gen bumber cover, then just folds the plate down and puts an extender into the receiver behind it when he needs to tow his trailer. One straight bracket across from one side to the other is all he did and it cleared everything just fine. The wiring plug fits flush behind the 2nd gen plate holder too...

Parts can be found at Northern Tool, or just about anywhere that carries trailer parts.
