Side mount exhaust

Make these last fall, didn't have time to put them in yet. Best part was they were really easy to make, too the better part of a day to get angles, cut and weld everything up. I highly recommend trying it if you got a welder and sometime.

I'd be a lot easier if there were long tube headers, but ah well.

Nah, i'd say they look as bad as those black outs you got there.........

Welds were made by a mig welder without gas, by a newbie, but they hold up fine.

No clue what it sounds like, but they're borla turbo mufflers.

The only other thing you need to do is fab some exhaust mounts. I went on ebay and found some cheap rear swaybar bushings for a jeep or something. I paid $8 shipped. I'm going to get 2 sets, so I can mount 2 right next to each other on each side and keep the ground clearance somewhat better. Got a piece of moderately thick solid bar from home depot and that's what I'm going to use to connected them. Then I'm going to add a rubber gromet or something int he bushing to fill up the rest of the space, leaving a little gap in there for manuverability. Going to look something like this:

(exhaust is the middle (_) )
_______________
(_)___(_)___(_)
| |
| |
bushings -------|

Only the exhaust isn't going to be level with the bushings, it's going to be slightly lower. Good luck on the project!

sway bar bushings, don't mind the advertising I just snagged this pic off ebay. Anyways, just drill 2 holes for each one in your floor and bolt them in. Hope this helps.

That is a bald tire... but all four were replaced with new ones about a week after that pic.

Yes, that exhaust used crinkle bends but thats because it was just a temporary system anyway. I'm having a new system fab'd up for me in a couple months, once the snow is gone.

The system on my car in the pic is a very poorly made one, by me but it sounds RAUNCHY like you guys wouldn't beleive! Its just awesome sound, especially for the $30 I spent making that whole system, LOL.

got my mandrel bends from this ebay dude, like 15 per U bend. Mufflers from a private seller, 2 for $50, pretty good considering they're over 100 each from jegs , also got cutouts from summit and the flanges come witht he cutouts.

I can attest to the loudness, lol. I had an 87 Firebird 2.8L auto, slapped a Cherry Bomb ** glass pack ** in place of the OE muffler (exiting driver side) b/c a tow-truck broke off the OE muffler, sounded nice and deep but since I got a 2.5" on a 2.25" exhaust it would slip off at times, finally mounted it hard behind the cat and my GAWD was it nice and loud I was parked on the edge of a parking garage once, set off two or three alarms when I started the car - idled thru the rest of the garage b/c the "attendant" was glaring at me haha.

Scorchmaster, I gotta meet ya sometime, I'm less than 20 minutes from you in Des Plaines. I miss my F-Body so much

MW66, do you have any ground clearance issues with that dual setup? do you have any more pics of it?

Yea, what he said!! That same thought crossed my mind before but then I forgot to ask.
I tried to do a set-up similar to Scorchmaster in my F'Bird but w/ one muffler that had dual outs. I put it up in the tunnel, laying flat, and couldn't get the car off my driveway So then I took it off and put the Cherry Bomb on instead, straight thru blowin' at the pumpkin, heh.
3 weeks later, pulled over for loud exhaust (long story short: Ram pick-up barrelin' down from behind, moron in front of me stopped before turning b/c of a cop, had to go WOT next to the cop after moron moved so that crazy-Ram wouldn't turn my Firebird into Grilled Chicken) ... so many idiots in Chicagoland

If ya want to meet up sometime that's cool, just should be when it's warm and when I'm back from college, that'd certainly help .

hedman longtube headers with 1 5/8" primaries with 3" collectors. duals are 2 1/2". ground clearance is excellent. have no probelms going over bumps or anything. let me see if i can find more pics.

absolute lowest point, mufflers are about 1 1/2" further off the ground.

those back tires are pretty big, aren't they? it looks like the back of the car sits on up there. are the mufflers in front of the rear axle or under it or what? i can't really tell...

tires are 275/60/15's basically a 28x9.5" tire. they're pretty big, but they tuck nicely. and the muffler dump RIGHT before the axel. as far back as possible, without putting them under the axel.

ride height

You need to put some air in those tires. The center of the tire isn't on the pavement.
