bellhousing to use lt1 t56 with an ls1
I have been kicking around the idea of swapping an ls1 into my car lately. I currently have an lt1. I would like to use my current lt1 t56 because it works great, I already have a street twin, and I have a spare t56 sitting in my garage should anything happen. I know that this isn't a bolt up. I have some fabrication skills and a spare lt1 bellhousing. Does anyone have the demensional differences of the two. I figure that I would have to drill the street twin flywheel to accept the ls1 crank and probably have it rebalanced. I would then need to weld mounting tabs on the lt1 bellhousing. I figure that then I might be able to use the lt1 fork and hydraulics. Does anyone have pics of the back of an ls1 block, or a close up of the rear main area, so I can compare it to my streettwin?
Thanks for any input.

I realize that I could do that, but then I would not be able to use my lt1 streettwin. I would like to use it.
Thanks,

Ok, somehow I originally got the impression that you had a much bigger mismatch of parts, now if I’m understanding the issue (I must be dense or something), I don’t understand the issue…
You have an LS1 and all the tranny/clutch parts for an LT1, right? With the exception of one bolt hole the bellhousing will bolt up and all you need is an LS1 flywheel to bolt the street twin stuff… judging from my street twin setup you probably just need an LS1 flywheel, any one will work, but worst case, you need to get a street twin LS1 flywheel from McLeod and bolt everything together

Actually I don't have an ls1...yet. I want to build a turbo system and after pricing what it would cost to rebuild my lt1 short block. It got me thinking that an ls1 swap would be cheaper, and could support the power level I want on a stock shortblock. I would be stoked if all I had to do was buy an ls1 flywheel.
Thanks for the info, I'll call mcloed.

Kory, I don't think its going to work. If you get an LS1 bellhousing and swap over the input shaft, say bye-bye to your LT1 street-twin. I don't know of anyway you'll be able to use your current street-twin with an LS1.

As of right now I'm planning on staying with the lt1 for atleast another year. I am shooting for 400-415rwhp with a cam swap and tuning. If I can make that I should be good for a while. I may swap over to the ls1 in a year or so when I start fabing my turbo setup.
Thanks for the replys.
