ram air set up

I bought a couple air cleaners and am putting together my own dual snorkel set up. But I also got a hold of the tpi V-8 air cleaner set up and am considering adding it to the front middle of the air cleaner too. My question is, is this too much ram air? I have a 305 with a 600 vacuum Edelbrock carb and performer manifold, factory roller cam and headers. Thanks.

as opposed to a open element which would be the least restrictive?

Ram air is just a fancy cold air intake. Air doesn't actually get "rammed" like a supercharger/turbocharger would do unless you are going maybe 200mph but i'm guessing on that speed. Plus, the camaro TPI dual air filter setup is very restrictive.

But if added to the dual snorkel set up, wouldn't it ad more cold air to the intake?

best is cowl hood and open element with a aluminum sheet around the carb to seal the cowl to the hood.

Can't afford a cowl hood. Going low buck for now.

That depends on the design… to make it work you need a largish chamber behind the opening that is filling it to slow down the air flow filling it and increase pressure, sort of like the diffuser after a turbocharger compressor wheel… the wheel speeds up airflow, and then as the area increases that airflow I slowed down increasing static pressure.

I heard of some pple running dryer hose to the front grill and using that for a homemade ram air setup but dont know if that actually works
