Roll bar install questions
okay so i got the interior of my car all torn apart, ready to install my roll bar. but when i put it in, it's touching the headliner at the corners.
do i just cut it down, or leave it?
if anyone has pics of nice looking roll bars in cars, please post'em.
also i'm looking for ideas on where to mount the rear struts for the hoop.
thanks.

it fits in the car where is supposed to, but it's just touching the headliner. like it's not crushing the headliner. i just think it might be better if there was like a half inch gap or so. this is the first cage i've done. it's a competition engineering main hoop so i don't know if i should cut it off or not.

Re: Roll bar install questions
i never installed a roll bar before.
you could cut the bottom of the main hoop an inch or so off and reweld the plates on them.
that would help clearence. or you could leave it the way it is. or make a custom headliner.

Re: Roll bar install questions
My hoop is tight against the headliner, maybe 1/4" gap at the most. You want it to fit as high as possible inside the car. And since you'll be doing welding to the top of the hoop for the back bars....why is the headliner in the car anyways?
Re: Roll bar install questions

i have a comp. eng. 8pt and the directions said you need to cut it to size. i couldnt even get mine to stand straight up in position because it was to tall.

Re: Roll bar install questions
i have the comp engineering kit as well and every pipe had to be cut to length, but that's for all the different angles you can run on a roll bar.
Re: Roll bar install questions
you want the bars as high as you can get them and still get the trim and head liner back in, you need to have the bar above your helmet sitting in the seat. I custom made this cage, and it is close, about as close as you can get and still weld it

good deal. that last pic is exactally how mine fits.
mine is a comp. eng. bar too, but i just boght the hoop and i made the strut kit myself. they wanted like $150 for it from summit ans the local steel yard charged me $31 for a 20 foot bar.
