Re: aluminum trim pannels

very modern. are you going to do anything with the trim or leave it like it is? you can take it out and crinkle coat it so it looks like an aircraft switch and gage panel - with those you can do anything.

how did you do it and how much time did it take?

Re: aluminum trim pannels

i am gonna polish it more and put my nitrous switches where the ashtray was

I had some old street sign from my last job

1 took the old panels off cut the ashtray from shift plate

2 traced all the parts and cut the with a saber saw then took a small angle grinder w 60 grit disc and ground till i got the the scribe lines

3 took heater control plate and cut the filler out and sanded it till it was short enough to go between the plate and heater controls

4 made some 90 degree peaces of sheetmetal and epoxyd them on the back then epoxyd the plastic peace onto the plate

Re: aluminum trim pannels

I dont know how much you plan on polishing it but when i first made mine I used #8 polish alum and it was so shiny that it blinded me some times when i drove..Then i pulled them off and powdercoated them light gray..Just something to think about...very nice job though.....

Re: aluminum trim pannels

kzhurley, are those Z-series gauges? Reminds me a lot of what I did with mine, except that I only mounted an oil pressure and water temp into the stock trim plate, with a "backing plate" kinda deal (I wanted it to blend in, mine looks like it belongs in my opinion). Looks good, but what's the switch for if i may ask?

They are z series i believ..closest thing i could find to match the factory lettering that i coul afford..oil.water temp, and trans temp..I put the switch there as kind of a security thing..when you shut it off you can remove the key part and not many would look twice..And also if i have to turn off the fire for some reason in a hurry i dont have to worry about the column locking up on me..I plan on maybe pulling the parts back off and powdercoating them black wrinkle but im not 100% sure yet cause im working on something for my door panels yet..I'll stop thread jackin now...

I like the gauges, like you said they match the rest of the car well. So it's kind of like a kill switch? And I need to do something with my door panels as well... Can I ask what your idea is? Thread jacking, Muahaha
