Home made “off road” engine stand?
Home made “off road” engine stand?
Any suggestions, tips or build plans to share?
I can probably stumble my way through making one but thought id ask.
Yea you can buy em cheap and could mod one but I know I can do better then starting with a cheap HF one.
I need to be able to push it through grass, stones and what not. Not a single piece of pavement anywhere.

buy one, then change the small casters out for some larger inflatable wheels that are strong enough for the load, not quite wheelbarrow tires, but same idea. Maytbe gocart or minibike tires

Re: Home made “off road” engine stand?
Think I want to make it so it can raise and lower Like make the main stem i guess a pipe n a pipe, and use a cheap $10 bottle jack that can raise it up and down, to grab a engine out of the bed of a truck with out having to hoist it first, then onto the stand or just make it easier on my back so I’m not bending over, but also so it doesn't have to stay up high and be a tip over risk when not working.
HF does have em for $60 but it would need to be around $40 to make my idea worth it to chop one up. As id only be using the top and bottom parts, all new middle.
crude drawing, would need a tighter fit for stem.

nope, good point.
refresh browser, pic updated.
With engine weight pulling it down / to the right, the jack should be on the other side to help it bind less. But some grease and 10tons of force will make it go up, and gravity will make it come down.

Gumby looks like it should work but why dont you put a small piece of pipe for jack neck to go into so it wont or cant slip off under pressure.

big long bolts for pins like an older style jack stand.
jack up, pin, reset, jack pin. crude but no differ then putting a car up on stands, just 1/3 less annoying.

Just make sure it has 4 wheels, not 3. My dad has a 3-pointer & even on smooth concrete, it is easy to push over, if you are trying to push sideways to how the wheels are pointing.
