lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
I havent got it back on the scales yet but shooting for under 3K, I have not put the dash back in yet but it is just sheet alunimum and weighs next to nothing. This is a track only car no street use here, no need for mirrors if everyone is behind you!

A few body mods on my '82.... Having a ball with the build. Shooting for 2800 lbs. or less with a SBC, TKO 5 speed, 9" rear, 4 wheel disc brakes and a really fun street toy.....

Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
I'm not really trying to emulate any certain look...kind of a combination of features from some of my favorite 60's muscle cars and a bit of individuality thrown in. The best part is being able to (finally) build what I want and not have to worry about interpreting the desires of a customer or trying to work around some ridiculous budget or time schedule.....

just a few more pics. The door panel accepts the original trim with the mirror controls it just wasn't installed at the time of the pic. The dash is all thin gauge aluminum and aluminum angle

I made a custom grill for my car, but it's nothing like some of the fabrication I have seen on other peoples' cars in this thread.
Here's what I did:

Thanks. It wasn't too hard to make it fit. And that's a rocker panel emblem too.

Great looking grill and excellent work!!!! Matter of fact, your entire car is very well done and shows the 3 things that separate Hot Rods from showroom stuff; fit, finish, and detail!!!! Very well done!

Same thing for Missouri. Its the most retarded law considering its a hit or miss between different states. I just said screw it, it looks better without a front plate and I hardly ever get harrassed for it.

Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
I think the website was customcargrills.com , or customgrills.com something like that. It was too expensive for what it is, like $50 or something? It was merely an experiment that I did because I had been trying to explain this idea to 4th gen Camaro guys for their cars but nobody understood what I was talking about so I just made it myself and liked it so much I decided to keep it haha

And, here's a couple shots of the rear control arms.... It's a triangulated 4 bar, I have adjustable front mounts for both the lower and upper bars... I don't have the mounts made for the upper brackets on the front side, they will tie into the two tubes running laterally at the rear of the tunnel, then to the cross bar on the roll bar...that's not built yet either!!! Though not totally necessary, there will also be a Watt's linkage on the back side of the housing... Suspension will be coilovers. Oh yeah, just ignore the nasty looking center section, it's just there for mockup....
Should be a good handling and very tuneable suspension!!!!
Finally, one shot of the driver's footwell area. Going to be a bit tight for a 3 pedal car, but they'll all fit....

On the foot well, let's just say I won't be driving it with work boots on, but my driving shoes do fit well!!!! Once I get the seat where I want it, I'll build a heel block on the floorboard, so go pedal to whoa pedal is just a heel pivot away... I like my clutch pedal a bit further back then the other two (due to a badly broken left leg once upon a time long ago), so that helps a bit with the room, too....

Track???? Heck, this is just my street car!!!! Might see a bit of time on open track day at a road course, and probably a few passes on Friday night at the digs for some grudge racing, but mainly just a cruizer!

That's alright, it's a common mistake... Probably just because you didn't realize you were dealing with a geezer like me who has such a sick and twisted idea of what constitutes a street car!!!!!

Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
Autometer sells a couple different stand alone shift lights.... If you want to hide it in your lighter recetacle, just put a lens on the front, and the shift light behind the lens.... I can't imagine running a 5 or 6 speed anymore without a shift light! Leaves you free to concentrate on things other then the tach when you're running the car hard!!! On one project, I used an Autometer RPM activated switch to trip a buzzer, and a small pair of ear plug speakers!!!! That worked great in competition, probably not a good plan on the street, though!!!!!

This thread is inspirational, I think back, and I sadly cannot remember anything that I have fabricated (unless you consider the sockets i had to make in order to get my spark plugs off from behind hooker headers.. they are my most precious and guarded tools) . This motivates me to be bold and try something.

Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
No pics here - most of my mods are electrical - but thought someone might have interest. I like relays, now that I've learned to use them.
TCC Lockup - I swapped to carb, and used the TCI Lockup Kit. Has provision for toggling on the TCC Lockup. But I wanted a lighted toggle switch - so I ran 12v+ to the toggle, and a ground as usual - then a 12v+ from the toggle to a relay. The relay gets activated from this 12v+, then switches on a ground wire that runs under the hood to the lockup kit.
Lighted Floorboards - I wanted green led's to light up the floorboards, not only when the doors are open, but when the lights are on as well. Door switches make a ground connection, so ran 12v+ to the led's and the door switch makes the ground - simple. But, when this gets wired into the headlight switch, the ground backfeeds and all the park lights come on when the door is opened
This is because the lights provide the 12v through the led's, so when the door is opened, the circuit is complete, and the headlights come on when the door is opened. Solution was a relays. Ran a relay between the grounded door switch and the led's, so that there wouldn't be feedback when the lights were on. And ran a relay between the headlight switch and the led's, so that no feedback when the door was opened. Took my feeble brain 2 days to figure this one out, and alot of terrible drawings with relays and wires and switches all on paper napkins.
I believe I could have used a single double throw double pole relay instead of two single throw single pole relays here, but that was too much to comprehend!

Re: lets see some pics of your custom mods and/or fabrication
I can't recall the year I got mine from. I say late 90's early 00's Sable or Taurus with the Mach audio system. But it doesn't have to be out of the Ford, I think newer GM vehicles (maybe Grand Prix?) have the window triangle tweeters aswell. I looked around the junkyard until I found these in the Ford section...

Good idea for everyone else, lol.
