I have an 88 Iroc Camaro Drag Car and was wondering if the 4th gen can replace the 3rd gen body. I am not saying I don't like the third gen body, but I am missing most of the body, besides the rear clip. I have a 98 Z28 laying around and was wondering if anybody has done a swap like this, or if it can even be done.
Mind you, this drag car is gutted out, caged, and back halfed, so all I need is basically sheet metal and other odds and ends.
Is something like this possible, or am I just better off cutting apart the 3rd gen apart and having the 4th gen back halfed ? That would be a lot of work either way.
Any ideas, thoughts?
Thanks.

by starting ur paragraph by stating "i dont really like the third gen cars" Id be surprised if this usnt ur only reply LOL
there is really no practical way to swap the body panels from a 3rd to 4th gen. If you like the 4th gen, your better off just modifying it.
you could sell the 3rd gen as a roller, make funds for the 4th gen build

How do you swap main bodies on a unibody car? If it was a complete tube chassis car, it would be possible but would take more work than it's worth. As mentioned above, if you don't like the third gen, sell it and buy another fourth gen. You might as well be asking how to swap the bodies with a mustang.

My question is WHY? If you did that then it wouldn't be a 3rd Gen IROC anymore. It would just be another plain ole 4th Gen. I guess get rid of this car you just bought and get a 4th Gen. because your idea is sort of ridiculous IMO. Good luck.

It would probably be about the same amount of work.Originally Posted by AlkyIROC

Just unbolt the k member and reinstall on 4th gen. Walla you are done.
Step one. Sell third gen. Step two build fourth gen.
thanks for the inputs. I agree, after further review. I am gonna sell the 4th gen and keep the Iroc. Its done way too nice to destroy it. Plus it will be one bad *** machine once the car is finished.
Thanks.

Years ago, somebody put like 90% of the 1st gen exterior body onto a 4th gen unibody for the idea of a 5th gen, so yeah. Can only find 1 pic.
It is possible to do. IF your pockets are deep enough.....

is the 98 a Z28 or SS? if so take the engine and trans from the 4th gen and sell it as a roller
Engine and trans is going into my 79 Z28. Its not an LS1, its an LS3 6.0 liter with a T56 transmission

i even saw one where it looked almost exactly like a 1st gen, form the exterior the only notable difference was the windshield. i think it was in hot rod or car craft, it was red.Originally Posted by Stephen

Sounds like the one in my other post. 4th gen T-top roof, windshield & cowl, 1st gen everything else (exterior-wise). That is the biggest pic I can find & apparently it is just a thumbnail of a big pic.Originally Posted by Convoy25

I know. I said it sounded LIKE the one I posted, not to imply that they were the same car.Originally Posted by Convoy25

ls3 should be 6.2.
ls2 is 6.0
ls2 is 6.0
its not a stock engine. Its a LQ4 6.0, with LS1 crankshaft, with l92 Heads, and LS3 Injection. So its a mix of many versions. Custom cam and tune, it made 392 WHP through the M6 trans.
