Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

This is the plan for my air intake. I have the second arm cut and sandblasted ready to be welded in then I'm having it all powder coated. Just thought I'd post this to see what kinda feedback I get. Has anyone on here already done this?

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

I thought about that but I think this set up would get more focused air and possibly faster air flow

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

No... If you want a ram air effect the best place is in the front of the car... you would gain more with a open element then you would with your current design

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

The flaw in your design is the TPI intake, they are too restrictive. Just use piping and a filter. Or the open element like FueledSoul mentioned.

More volume, but hotter air which equals less oxygen.

Slightly less volume cooler air (more oxygen rich) is better than a higher volume hot air.

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

I saw a setup similar to this that would work better, the guy used the stock piping for the hole at 4 o'clock and also put in another bit of piping at 8 o'clock, I can't seem to find the picture though.

Sounds like the stock dual inlet setup from the early 3rd gens.

From your profile you have a 305. I don't think 3 air tubes is necessary.

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

Everyones saying open element but I think this will work well. I already put the TPI intake in connected to nothing and just the air running through that thing made my car run noticeably cooler now when its focused into the air cleaner it should show some results.

plus this way its cool air from outside as opposed to air from inside your engine bay

Run the stock dual style like I posted above & that will be plenty of air to feed your engine & leave the TPI duct open to provide cooling air just flowing over the engine components. Run a cowl induction hood & the cooler air flowing in the front could provide enough under hood air pressure for air to flow out the cowl hood instead of it getting sucked in like normal?

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

Yeah that would get the job done the only issue is when running it with the TPI intake connected to nothing it blows dust and stuff all over my engine bay. Now that I put filters in it it might not do that though.

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

If you want cooler air ditch your factory intake... The Whole plenum is wrap with water jackets to keep it hot and the whole thing is restrictive...

The A/C thing actually kind of makes sense...If you could run the aluminum A/c piping through your intake and then back out so it's just a piece of cold piping in there. That's actually a really good idea if you have A/c.

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

That would be pretty crazy, my only concern would be the moisture but if you could find a way around that it sounds like a really good idea.

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

It would take more power to run the ac than any possible power added for cool air. Then add all the extra weight on top of that it is just not a good idea.

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

Well the way I planned to do it couldn't add more than 10 pounds. The only new pieces would be the TPI intake, filters, plastic air duct tube, and snorkel arm.

Based on the results from running the TPI intake with nothing connected I'm expecting a decent improvement. Just having the thing blow cold air on the motor made it run significantly and consistently cooler.

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

This a loaded question. Is it just a matter of a dense air charge or is it a matter of a colder more dense fuel charge??.If you do only one, could you end up with a lean condition?.

Provided you want a fast car with a/c, that would be the perfect way to counteract having a/c.

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

why not open element with a nascar style cowl style intake. then you have cool lower pressure air coming straight from your cowling

Re: Triple Snorkel Air Cleaner?

You really want to run the dual snorkel OEM style setup as it fits great and has enough capacity for almost anything you might run, of course get a K&N for it...

K&N's let in more dirt than a paper filter, unless you're running boost you don't need a K&N, and you certainly don't need the extra dirt associated with it.

I'll just wash the K&N's and replace the factory circle shaped one more often.

Look at the 1970s air cleaners or the one on a Monte SS. Rivet a second air inlet neck on the other side; presto, dual snorkel w/ nicely sized openings. It's not even much work to copy the L69 F-body Thermac vaccuum hoses.

If theyre compatible and have larger openings thats a really good idea, I'll probably finish this set up first though because I have most of the work done already.
