Modded UMI crossmember for T56 swap

Well I'm swapping my T5 for a T56 and thought I would share with yall what I did with the old crossmember. It's a UMI Performance crossmember with d/s loop and torque arm mount that I had with the T5. I wasn't thrilled with the T56 crossmember options out there and decided to hack up the UMI piece to fit the T56 and retain the d/s loop and torque arm mount. The first pic is what the xmember looked like originally.

It kinda resembles a scorpion. I think I will call it my Scorpion T56 crossmember The tabs you see will be bolting on to one of the bolts on the Alston subframe connectors to help support the rear of the crossmember.

The support bolts to your sfc's are a very good idea, should solve the issues people have with the typical t56 crossmembers

Thanks, I should patent the idea. Even if you don't have SFC's you can still do this mod with the support bolts. Just drill a hole and run a bolt through the subframe and weld on those tabs. What problems were other cross members having?

Bump TTT

I have UMI everything and would hate to use another brand TQ arm + Xmember because they don't have a version for a 1998-2002 T56. If I buy a UMI T5 TQ arm would you be willing to do this again?

Why has UMI not responded to this post

Very cool idea. I will need to take a look at this as well. I wonder how a big rivnut (like 1/2") into the frame rail would do in that situation. I think it would serve the purpose.

So you are going to buy the UMI setup, cut it apart, re-weld it, paint it (instead of powder) just for the sake of having a UMI sticker on the side of it?

Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper and easier to buy the Spohn setup and slap a UMI sticker on it?

To the OP, I really like what you did. In your case it made total sense since you already had the UMI setup for the T5.

Awesome idea man. I'm trying to fab up an adjustable crossmember with mounting plates attatched to the frame and different bolt holes to slide the crossmember back for when I swap to the t56 in the furure. Do you happen to know exactly how much further back you moved it from the stock location? It would help me out a lot with my dimensions.
