Triple Snorkel Aircleaner?
I dont know what to call it but I connected a TPI aircleaner to my stock one with a second arm.

Re: Triple Snorkel Aircleaner?
That's pretty sweet! Should help provide some better flow to the air-starved TBI air-cleaner assembly. Have you noticed any kind of performance gain?
I've been looking into the idea of fabbing up a duct assembly from my bird's bulge hood scoop to the TBI air cleaner, so threads like these are gonna catch my attention for a little while!

Yeah I'm happy with how it turned out. I have two high flow K&N filters in the TPI intake but I'm still looking for a high quality circular air filter. I'd say it performs as good as the Edelbrock open element set up I just took off of it but its hard to say if ones better than the other. I'm also trying to fab up or purchase some ram air ducts to force more air into the TPI aircleaner and hopefully I'll see a little more gain.

Re: Triple Snorkel Aircleaner?
here's the air cleaner i made for my Camaro. it works- the carb stays so cold that i can't get the choke to stay open, so the fast idle is engaged when i slow down after a few miles of highway speeds.. i'd say that your stock snorkel is doing nothing besides letting air out at this point, so it might be best to do what i did and just cut it off and plug the hole. also, there is no need to the stock filters on top of the radiator any more- they are just a restriction at this point.

Yeah I think I disagree with you, there's no way the amount of force coming backwards out the stock arm is greater than the force that's pushing air in. I also think I'm going to keep the filters above the radiator but I will give it a try without them.

Re: Triple Snorkel Aircleaner?
Its not a question of air forces in or out of the air cleaner. There is no air projecting out of the intake. period.
There must be a while lot of air escaping with 14"x5" round open element air cleaners.

Re: Triple Snorkel Aircleaner?
the air coming from the intake on top of the radiator will probably be at a higher pressure than the air going into the stock scoop due to the way the air is getting forced in.. since air always travels from high pressure to low pressure, air is probably pushing out of the stock scoop, which is bleeding off some of the ram air effect from the other scoop and this killing off some of the effectiveness.

Re: Triple Snorkel Aircleaner?
I like the way your mind works. But while the engine is running the intake mani is always the lowest pressure point drawing air in from any opening.
Also unless you have a power adder there is no air being forced into the engine no matter what appliction of the intake system. Your engine naturally aspirated is always sucking air in faster than air can be forced in no matter the speed your going.
I do see what you are thinking but thats not how it works. No bleeding effect occurs during engine operation

Re: Triple Snorkel Aircleaner?
Did you give it a shot and remove those two filters? My thinking is that you are creating a restriction by double filtering the air from the TPI air intake. Whereas the stock side is just getting filtered once with the round element. I like the idea, it makes for a very busy engine bay, but I could see it working. I don't want to see anyone do it since those things are rare, but it would be cool to be done with a stock dual snorkel intake. You'd have a quad snorkel!

Re: Triple Snorkel Aircleaner?
Yeah I tried it without the filters and I couldn't see a real difference it just picked up more dirt on the circular filter so I think I'm going to keep them in. I considered connecting an additional snorkel but I wasn't really happy with the passenger side air scoops I could find online.
