Trade My Nice 2nd gen for your Nice 3rd gen-NYC Area

Whats up,
I am looking to trade my 1980 Trans Am for a nice Third gen, GTAs prefered, as are t-tops. T/A was originally a turbo car but now has an Olds big block swapped in.
Some specs on the car:
1971 Olds 455:recently rebuilt, holley 750carb / edelbrock torker II intake/ mild cam / headers into a custom true dual exhaust.
Turbo 350 trans rebuilt w/ shift kit
Stock 9 bolt posi rear w/ 3.08 gears
Maroon exterior with Tan interior
t-tops
New snowflake rims and tires.
Body is clean would rate it a 7.5 out of 10. minor bubbles to both front fenders. Some spider webbing of nose.
Interior also 7.5. Totally complete. 1 very minor crack on the dash passenger seat has 1 cig burn.
The car runs and drives great. Sounds very mean. Never raced but would expect mid-high 13's. With the 3.08s highway driving is not a problem. Oh, and insurance is super cheap. I really like the car but miss my old 86 Trans Am badly. Email me at Lupo355@aol.com for more info or pics.
,
John

Pics of this 2nd gen?

Are you limited to only 3rd gen Birds or would you consider a 3rd gen IROC-Z or Z28?

Love your car. I have a rust free, dent free, third with a very good paint job. Car has been owned by two old men.(over 40) never dogged out and never skimped on repairs. not sure what mods have been done, does have flowmaster cat back. Also has new back seat and new front seats. Only thing left is carpet. Located in Va.

Re: Trade My Nice 2nd gen for your Nice 3rd gen-NYC Area

I'm assuming you've found a car to swap this beautiful TA for? if not, I have been considering selling this car. I was going to let it go as a roller, but have a 97 Vortec 4blt main 350 undergoing a refreshing. It has edelbrock vortec intake, holley 750, MSD converted HEI distributor.. The tranny is a 700r4 also undergoing a complete rebuild.. The car is an 86 red TA. It is EXTREMELY clean body with zero rust and new paint as of a few years ago. It was owned by my uncle who bought it from their Snap-On dealer in 1988. He owned it until 2000 and sold it. At that time, a few cam lobes had worn down and the new owner dumped the engine. The new owner repainted the car and was building a new engine until he found his dream car. The TA ended up in the swapsheet as a roller which I then bought. Here's some pictures of the car. Let me know if you are interested. Drop me a line a swimmselectronics@hotmail.com.. The car is located in N. Syracuse, NY.

Thanks for looking!

The engine has brand new vortec heads and is having a brand new crank installed. The last motor I built, the "machinist" chamfered an oil hole in the crank WAAAY too big and caused the bearing to fail. It only had maybe 4 drag strip runs on it before it started ticking.. Drove it home and pulled the motor.. found the loose rod. It has new flat top pistons, will have all new bearings.. THe motor is upwards of 400 hp by itself. It is currently disassembled though. Pics available of everything.

Yeah yeah.. i know.. But I have a special place in my heart for 2nd gen TA's... particularly 79-81 style.. so...

The car is sentimental as it's the first car I ever drag raced.. of course, that was back in 1988 when they bought it.. lol..

You don't see many 2nd gens that are this unmolested. Looks like a nice solid car, whoever has it.

I didn't necessarily like the comment about the "2 old men over 40" who owned it!!!

Hell, I got some miles left!

LMAO!!!! It would be funnier but one of the owners was ME! I redid the entire interior and put in a new 350 since then. I guess it is never too late to fill childhood dreams. lol

Unmolested? Turbo for a big block makes it unorigional, no? Or were you talking about the apperance?

OK....get picky about it. How about "It is a very straight, good looking car for a 2nd gen"??

The body and interior appear to be in great shape for it's age, and even though an Olds engine replaced the 301 Turbo (good riddance, by the way), it looks fairly stock.

It's a driver and from the pictures, it looks to be a solid car.

I agree, just bustin ***** .
Except I would have kept the turbo, just for origionality if not value.

I was actually leaning more to getting a 81 Bird or a 87 442 (IIRC) and my Firebird just kind of fell on my lap, couldn't pass it up (and it was 1/3rd the price which my wife liked since we have four other cars, lol).

Yeah, the second gen bird and especially the 87 442 would have been cool because they are different. Same thing with your Firebird now, not many are running turbo'd sixes and I think it is cool. In a way, that is how I ended up with this IROC. I had one new in 88 but had to sell it because of having kids, etc. so I always had a soft spot for them. In 2002 I bought a new SS that was sic fast after I did a bunch of bolt ons, but you saw one at every street corner. So, I sold it and went looking for the IROC. Now we are trying to make a sleeper out of it. My son and I are having a blast, only time will tell if we accomplish our goal.

Seeya around the boards.
