Gauging Interest in Carbon Fiber Coolant Expansion Tank

Hello, if you are like me and are tired of that ugly plastic coolant tank under your hood, let me know. I am considering having a mold made and running off about 20 to 30 of these tanks. If you have any interest at all in this, the first 20 to 30 people will be able to purchase them for approximately for $60.00. I plan on making these out of show quality carbon fiber. Post here, PM me, or drop me an email at camaero@gmail.com

I will post some pictures ASAP. We are close to running this deal through. They should look pretty nice! Of course we don't expect anybody to commit to buying them without seeing them first. We are just looking to see if the interest is there!
Thanks guys!

We have an aircraft quality carbon fiber subcontractor who will be making the mold for us and producing them. We plan on making one size only which will be the small size. From what we have been able to determine, the small size works fine on the 89 to 92. The brackets will be universal and will fit all years of third gens. The shape will be similar to the small size only it will be squared off and will look much nicer.

Sounds interesting, but as others have already mentioned, it's hard to commit unless we see the final product (preferably an engine bay photo with the carbon fiber tank installed).

Thanks for your interest everyone. We are very close to having everything done here and pictures will be on the way soon. We may be making some more carbon fiber parts for these cars in the future and if so, will make another post in the group purchases section so you guys can get a good deal. I will post again very soon with pictures and a way to order.

Thanks
-Jason

how about a carbon fiber dual fan top mount? that would be bitchin.

carbon fiber cowl screen (the plastic part up by the windshield wipers), that would be nice.

carbon fiber tail light pieces (camaro's have the black plastic housings for the license plate lights that can be removed), that would be cool.

I also think the Fan mount radiator cover think would be awsome in carbon fiber. Also think some other things would be cool like : 92' style wing in carbo ( im sure it would be alot ), Carbon Brake res. cover, carbon windshield washer tank ( to match the coolant ), carbon TB plate ( possible? ), along with interior things like radio bezel, shifter bezel, etc. Definatly cant wait for pics and let us know on anything else!

Sorry for the lack of an update. The carbon fiber tanks were going to end up costing way over what was originally told to us. 100 plus. We really wanted the price to be much lower and decided that most people would not pay this much. I may be wrong though.

As soon as work/family allows, there will be an update with pictures and pricing of an aluminum tank and possibly still, a carbon fiber tank. This will only be done if we can get the prices very reasonable.

Again, sorry for not responding sooner but we have been waiting to see if there was any other option to get the carbon fiber tank price down closer to the projected $60.00.

I will post again as soon as I have good news.

Count me in also - according to price, and looks. A polished aluminum would look good also - Carbonfiber, that's the tops.

Thanks, Ed.

I'd still like to see a pic of those carbon fibre coolant/washer tanks. If they look a lot better than the plain-jane plastic tanks we've got now, I'd be willing to spend money on them. Yes, even if they were $100 plus.

Never underestimate what some people are willing to spend to make their engine compartment stand out from everbody else's.

I think a pair of carbon fiber tanks would look mint. Not too sure about aluminum though. Maybe a satin finish would look good, but polished/chromed would look REALLY tacky and out of place on these cars.

Cabon fiber is a lot more subtle and easier on the eyes.

Hello all,

I also agree that a nice pair of Carbonfiber canisters would be great. One for the radiator overflow, and the other for the windshield washer fluid. There are several companies that already make them for the radiator overflow out of aluminum - but to have them in Carbonfiber would be top notch. ~Ed~

I'd spend upto $250 on a matching pair of coolant and washer fluid tanks.. especially if only 20-30 'sets' were made.

Re: Gauging Interest in Carbon Fiber Coolant Expansion Tank

canton makes a pretty nice direct replacement fabricated aluminum coolant tank for us.

I like this thread, like so make other CF threads here, people seem to have no idea what the materials cost let alone the fab and mold times. 60 bux, never in a million years. even 100$ is low IMHO.

Why not Make fiberglass tanks then wrap in a layer of carbonfiber?
Just saying.
