Who's got the highest mileage?

I figured I would post this here, seeing as most of the people here post about low mileage cars, I was wondering about the opposite end of the spectrum. I've got 250,000 miles on my '86 Iroc and she's still all original, and has very little rust. She still runs fairly strong, and the only oil she consumes is through chevy's poor valve seal's. Can anyone beat me in this bragging catigory?

I forget who, but there was a guy on here a while back who had a camaro with a 305(don't remember if it was an RS, Z28, Iroc, or anything) with 300,000+ miles on his car, all original. I don't think I've seen him on here in a while though.

That's a lot of miles. Do a search on the Tech board, I believe it's come up a few times.

Personally I have about 119k on the body and about 13k on the motor, 10k on the tranny, 5k on the rear.

I used to have an '87 Formula with an LG4 and a 5-speed and it had 150K on the clock before i sold it and it was still in very good mechanical condition and running strong (for an LG4 ). Certainly not the highest mileage thirdgen on these boards but worth mentioning........

Well, orange rocket will probably be pissed I didn't let him share this with everyone, but his '83 L69 Z has 176k on it, and appears to never have been rebuilt...runs good too.

My friend has a '91 Formula 305 TPI with 268k on it, but the current engine is a "mystery" 350 (it has carbed valve covers!!) slapped in, so the original engine is long gone...tranny was supposedly rebuilt about 10k miles ago too...

Okay, how's this for a testimony of reliabilty? My Uncle had an '86 Z28 w/an LG-4, with 385,000 miles before the engine let go because of a wiped bearing. He rebuilt the motor and went to 415,000 miles before the subframe cracked (NY car, damn roadsalt!). Welded the subframe back together and sold it. This was a year ago and he still see's the current owner driving it around all the time. Chevys relability kick's a$$

Damn! You've gotten 40K mi out of a ZZ4 crate motor! I had wondered how reliable they were going to be.

Seems that the "marathon" motors are the LG4's and the L03's.
Although these engines are getting a bad rap in the performance department they are winning the long distance awards. I'm sure that 2.73 rear gear is helping them too.

my 87 IROC-Z has approx. 172,000 Miles on it, the only oil it consumes are from the valve seals also.

I'm hoping the LB9 is as reliable as the LG4 and L03s...any reason why they shouldn't be??

I don't see why they should'nt be as reliable. There pretty close to being the same I think just different cams and induction sytem. I think reguler maintenance has something to do with it for sure. My Uncle did his oil changes every 1500 miles. Maybe overkill, but he went 385,000 miles.

V6's last too...

I have a red '85 sport coupe with 141,500 on the clock. Just had to replace the injectors. My 83 camaro has 158,000 on the body (rebuilt s-10 v6 installed and started using it in late April). My 86 probably has about 180,000 on the body and it just had a used V6 installed this past weekend. The 83's original motor went to about 154,000 and the 86's lasted until this past weekend.

HI, this post certainly caught my eye. I have a bona fide 322,000 on my Iroc, original owner, original engine. However I'm on the 2nd rear and the 3rd 700R4.

I hope mine doesn't blow too quick due to damage caused by LACK of oil changes...the lady that had my car did her last 3 oil changes at 8k, 7k and this last one went 9,700 miles!!! I changed it as soon as I bought it obviously...she was good doing them every 3-4k until she hit about 80k, and knew the car was going down the road. Then she didn't care

Obviously, I will change it every 3k for sure...

Getting ready to turn over 170k.

~140k on the rear and T-5, both were replaced under warranty at 30k.

35k on the ZZ4 shortblock/G1 Trick Flow combo.
The ZZ4 is a quality piece. Wish I could say that about the TF's.

They have not been easy miles and my Christine has made me bleed upon occasion. The moral of the story is, do not use cheap parts and choose your mechanic wisely. I didn't always do that.

High mileage IROC

My 87 LB-9 has 194,000 miles on original engine/tranny. It doesn't leak or pass oil through the rings or valve seals...I know because I add only 1/4 quart between oil changes and drive the car in hard stop/.go traffic 65 miles a day.!

The odometer quit 4 years ago at 236,574 miles.....

This has always been and still is my daily driver.

2.73 rear end helps too

My guess os 285,000 miles

And just so everyone knows, I do have a 305 TPI LB9 engine.

As long as the car's engine is treated right and not mist treated "lack or oil changes and tune ups", you shouldn't have any problems witht he LB9 engine, they are reliable.

I got 175,000 now lol.

my six cylinder went 230,xxx before flying blowing because some idiot put the wrong plugs in her, (too much reach) and there's 20,000 on the new motor, giving the car 257,000 miles right now, the tranny went for 235,000 lasting only an oilchange b4 leaving me w/o 4th and 3rd gears, but that was quickly fixed by one helluva rebuild.

I have a 1991 with an L98 that made it to 113,xxx before spining a main bearing. The engine was almost pefect, didn't even needed to be bored over. After a fresh engine the tranny soon left at 124,xxx miles. I have had trouble with the tranny ever since (mostly the shop that built it and the fact they screwed it up twice now) so I have ordered some stuff from probuilt to get to get it moving again. At 130,xxx the front pinion bearing started screaming so I installed new bearings in the rearend lasr weekend.

My RS (L03, 700R4 & 2.73's) has over 238,400 miles on the original engine and tranny. No rebuilds on either etc...

Car still runs strong (for a L03)

Just bought new tires too

Whats up with that? Seems like if you beat the snot out of them they'll run forever. This is especially true for GM vehicles.

My '83 'Bird daily driver has 233K+ on its body, 25-30K on its second 305 and ?K on its non-original 700R4. No rust and drives as tight as my '88 GTA did when I bought it new in '89.

I bought this car from its original owner with 192K and replaced/upgraded the entire suspension and steering linkage.

My LB9 has 130,000 and is on its last leg.It eats a quart of oil every 250 miles and gets 10 MPG and the weird part is it only smokes on start up occasionally.

The 1985 IROC Z has 207,876 kms on it, thats about 124,730 miles. Not that high, it sits all winter thought. It doesnt smoke at all and the oil is still golden I change the oil at 4000kms, 2400 miles.
It runs great for an origional car. all I need is exhaust, its starting to sound ratty.

I have a '91 firebird, 3.1L v-6, with 270,000 original miles. Never had any tranny problems or anything. All i have ever done to it is 2 alternators, 1 fuel pump, 1 water pump. Still runs strong. Uses NO oil. Leaks no oil. It totally tight everywhere. Planning a rebuild in the very near future though...

215,00 original LG4 and trans. No leaks or power loss. The LG4 is the longevity motor. Changing motor for more power this winter. Trans still runs great.

my neighbor has a 91 rs and last time i heard(about a month ago), it had almost 350,000 miles, he said the only thing he had to replace was the tranny and crankshaft, the car is in good shape. he drives that car everywhere, i never would of thought a camaro, especially as new as a 91, used 350 thousand miles in just 12 years, thats a crap load.

It can happen msclmn0079, your friend just really loves his Camaro. With normal maientience, some mechinacal know how and a couple bucks to invest in the big things like tranny's and rear's when they let go there is no reason a third gen wont go well over 300K.
Unfourunately most third gens, like the second gens before them are driven hard and put away wet so to speak. I bought my IROC new in 89 and its still my daily driver, hit 326,000 last week on the ORIGINAL motor.

Only 77,000 miles on the whole car. Not even over the 100,00 mark. Guess I am a loser in this category.

My dad has a 87 Pontiac Firebird with a 2.8 v6 5spd. It has 176000 miles on it with the engine never being opened. It is sitting now because the throwout bearing is bad and he doesn't want to put the money in it because of the mileage on the motor.
