350 conv?

There was recently a car for sale in the denver paper for about 8k, it was either an 87 or 88 iroc convertable with a 350 tpi and a 5 speed, i didnt think any were made like this? If they were, whats their rarity?

The engine is a transplant..

No 350 equipped third gens came officially from the factory with the convert option or the 5 speed....

If you can get hold of the car's VIN, look at the 8th digit.. If it isn't an 8, it never came with a 350....

I think it's sticky time at the top of the page about 350 5spd convertibles!
No, it's not legit.

I agree, the 350 and 5-speed tranny throws up a big red flag, there arent any of any sort, coupe, t-top, convertible. Its more than likely a 305 5-speed car with a 350 dropped in, or a typo... or an outright lie.

I'm still working on the officiality of 350's and convertibles as a factory authorized deal, what I have so far is inconclusive but leaning more towards the 'no way in hell' side. You could get real close, but the GM stamp of approval isnt there.

I happen to have an 89 Formula 350 convertible with the ASC sticker on the drivers door jam and hopefully soon the window sticker. I have pics too. My vin does have an 8 to indicate a 350TPI. I do agree that the 5speed got optioned for the 305 but not the 350's from the factory. STEVE Z

That's great, however the car in question, was a 87 or 88 IROC convertible. I sure wish Chevy would have had the same policy as Pontiac regarding the 350TPI in the verts!

Yea, but I'll bet your VIN is like mine and wont have the 3 in the sixth digit. That would make it officially a convertible.

The window sticker itself will be for a Formula. There was a second sticker added for the convertible conversion cost, but I doubt you will be able to get your hands on that one if you dont have it now.

Rob, I wouldnt entirely discount no Camaro 350 convertibles, it just wont have the correct VIN either to say its a convertible. ASC would do it to any car given the cash, even used ones. I'm sure theres a possibility some dealer had one done, I just cant say for sure but I know its a possibility.

Madmax,
Sure, they would take any car off the street, however it won't have the "3" and an "8" as you mentioned.
