Mileage Woes
Well, it finally happened. I drove over 700 miles one way to SuperFest in Michigan last Thursday. Friday morning, I went to the host hotel to meet up with everyone and this is what I saw!!!!
It was good that it happened at a good show and not while just cruising around home. What a landmark. By the way, I also took 1st place in the unrestored original class I was in.

Chet,
You don't have any clue how it feels. That's a Honda!!!!!
You missed SuperFest in michigan, please don't miss the 1000 Camaro gathering at the Corvette Museum in September. I'd love to see your car.

Bah. That sh!tbox is no longer eligable for my low-mile IROC registry.
congrats on the show win! when (if) I ever get the registry set up, I'll be sure to let you know. That way you can stand on the outside and look through the glass at all the low mile membership that your car once belonged to.
Actually, all kidding aside, I'm trying to figure out exactly what milage I want to use as a cut off. I'm leaning toward something between 25,000 and 30,000 miles. What do you think?

Well now you've done it! The value of your IROC just crashed through the floor and is now in the basement. Being the kind soul that I am, I will give you $500 for it.
But you have to pay for delivery for that price.
Just kidding, just kidding...I'll pay for delivery.

I got my first Honda in 1969(Mini Trail 50) before my Chevy( El Camino) in 1973.
Where in the heck has time gone.
I drive a Honda and a Chevy.
I ride my Hondas more than I drive my Chevys though. Chevy never did come out with a 4 wheeler, Quad.

Turning that milestone in mileage must have been a killer Scott. Like when after buying my 92, I did my best in keeping the mles below 30K...and then went hog wild afterwards in taking it to shows and cruises and so it sits with 45K on it now in only two years. It was good to meet you at Superfest as you have a beautiful car, one that deserves not to become a daily driver. Just keep bringing it to the shows though as without it, a part of 3rdgen history would be missing as its a clean, perfect example of the original car.
I remember the pain when I hit the 36,000 mile mark in my '92. Then 40k and the big bad 50k (ouch). By 60k it didn't hurt so much anymore. It would've been great to be able to buy it new because the original owner put 33k on it in 2 years. At least I have the '02 that has 190mi so I can finally have a low mile vehicle.

Drive a Honda 200,000+ miles and WITHOUT changing the timing belt and I might be impressed.

What's the big deal about a timing belt when that is the only preventive procedure.

...other than SBC's don't require that preventive procedure of replacing a timing belt to keep the engine from self destructing every 45-60,000 miles or so like and I don't like Honda's
FWIW: Visited a Mazda dealer, looked at car etc dealer gave me this very long list of preventive maintance for the typical Mazda for a 150,000 miles....you the
one...with 15,000 transmission fluid changes etc...had a list of very high prices to go with all the services too...of course they left changing the timing belt
...I asked if cars had chains or belts and if they needed replacement and how often...dealer was like oh yes they must be replaced every 30,000 miles...I asked how much...and was told $500 for the simple ones and $850 for the miller cycle (I was told that's Mazda speak for supercharged) ones...I was told this was very cheap compared to replacing the engines which would self-destruct if the belt broke...I commented over say 250,000 miles that would be like $3,500 (7 timing belts standard engine) and about $5000 for the miller engine...they were like yes what's the point?...and I pointed out they left all those details and costs off of the their maintance schedule...they were still looking at each other puzzled like WTF? How'd we miss that?...they seemed even more incompent than the average Ford/GM dealer. Last edited by Arctic White 91 RS; Jul 20, 2002 at 11:48 PM.
