I'm not an expert but I beleive that all of the 6360 pace cars built in 1982 had the Cross fire injection. Not sure but it's all I have ever seen. But if your decals say crossfire odds are your car doesn't have the original engine in it.

Most of the 6360 cars had the 3 speed auto with 4 barrel carb combination. In terms of numbers, I'm not sure how many Pace Cars came with CFI that year but the percentage was low. All of 1982's production for CFI was low. Another option that only a few of the '82s came with were the 4 wheel disc brakes. You may want to check The Camaro White Book for a better breakdown, I don't have mine handy now. The previous owner of your car may have added the CFI decal, or the engine was stripped of the CFI at some point and replaced with the 4 barrel. I understand GM had problems with the CFI and it may have been easier to do this than fix the CFI.
If you provide your VIN number, perhaps someone can confirm the CFI option for you.
Perhaps you can post some details about you car while you're at it. Any pictures ??

There is no way of telling how many cars came with the CFI Engine in 82, but I do agree that the majority of them were probably LG4 cars. I have owned several 82 Pace Cars and only 1 was a Cross-Fire Car. Your very possible could have been an original Cross-Fire Car(Need VIN Number to tell for sure), and I am sure alot of them have been "converted" to carburetor because of all the problems with the CFI Setup.
The rarest one to get would be a Cross-Fire Car with 4 wheel Disc brakes.......very rare indeed.
I am debating on starting a 82 Pace Car Registry so we can figure out what is left out there and how many have which options....I figure there were 6360 total produced, so there are plenty left out there to document.

Also with yours, the 4 speed manual transmission was not available with the Cross-Fire engine, so I am sure that someone just swapped the emblems on there. If you wanted a manual transmission, you had to get the carburetor.
Also Scott Moyers dad has a 82 Pace Car that is a 4 speed, carb car with like 18K original miles and would be an excellent vehicle to use as reference if yours needs any restoration.
I was going to ask him for some good pictures of it myself to use as reference for my restoration too.

I have a friend about 10 miles away from me that has 3 1982 Pace Cars. 2 are C.F.I. and one is a 4bbl/4 speed.
The carbed car has pretty low miles, around 30k.
One of the CFI cars has 67k, and the other around 75k, but front is damaged.
I can get over there any time to get pictures if it would help anyone.

I can get pics of whatever is needed from an LG4 4 speed.
There was one that recently sold very cheap on Ebay with 19k miles. I requested more info from the seller, but they never replied. Oh well!

Scott-
If you could email me some pictures, that would be great!!!
I did see the one on ebay too, but outside of the generic picture, the description did not state that it was a Pace Car, only a 82 Z with the 19K (or whatever it was) mileage. I watched that auction like a hawk!!! I probably would have bid on it, but like you, emailed them about it and never got a response. I think that it is funny that the car only went for that amount. If they returned my email, and it was indeed a pace car, I would have paid more than that. I am sure others would have too. I could only imagine the number of emails they received about it.
It is like the Pace Car on there now, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...846237159&rd=1
I emailed them a few questions about it too, and never received an email back. It was on there before and ended with no bids before, so it would not suprise me if the high bidder did not follow through on this one too. I just noticed it ended with the high bidder having zero feedback. (Could be wrong though).
Thanks

The above link is for a car that is currently sitting about 4 miles from my home. It isn't in the greatest shape either. It's at the Minneapolis Auto Auction. They must be having trouble getting rid of it also.

I figured Id jump in.
I saw an 82 Z pacecar with 800 miles on it at a carshow last summer. I *think* it was an auto/ LG4 car (it was a while ago). But wow, it was clean!
Yesterday I saw an 82 Z pacecar on the highway, across the grass median at 55 mph. It had full aftermarket GFX, Silver Louvers, and a Daytona type hood (large and ugly hood), also had aftermarket wheels. But it still had all of the pacecar graphics on the sides.
taturbo: Nice T-bird collection

While you can't exactly describe them as rare, they are infact Pace Cars, and what some people do to them I will never understand.
Scott, did that Pace Car really have 4X,XXX miles??? Seems pretty beat up for such low miles. Years ago, I saw one advertised in Hemmings for like 18K that only had 8 original miles....

I can only go based on the advertisement for the mileage. Other than that, I don't know. I think time has done more to the car than miles.
I know the person with that 800 mile 82. He has a few more and I've been talking with him about getting the 2002 Brickyard 400 that's in my sig. He also has a 93, 67 and 69 Pace Cars.
I forgot to mention that there are already people maintaining a registry for the 82 Pace Cars. The primary registry is maintained at:
International Camaro Club
2001 Pittston Avenue
Scranton, PA 18505

Scott, yup that was the guy! it was at the Summit NJ carshow last summer, he had his 67, and 93 Pacecars there too! I dont think he had the 69 yet when I spoke with him. I was very impressed with the 82.
You're right! He doesn't have the 69 yet. He has the hardest one to get a hold of, though, the '67.
You don't want a car that's 20 years old with 8 miles on it. There's a guy here that has an 80 Z28 with all the options with 23 miles on it. I saw the car and it's nice, but could you imagine the work needed to get that car running again? I had dry seals and gaskets when I bought my 87 IROC with 6k miles on it. Minnesota isn't the friendliest environment on a car that gets stored in an unheated garage!

I think I have seen it all when it comes to the 82 Pace Cars.....
I surely is different though...

the top of that car looks like it was done pretty nicely and with good proportions, unlike some I have seen.
but the car's stance looks really weird to me. the back is too high, sort of like a non-WS6 car, and the front is too low. broken suspension? oh well, at least it's another crossfire livin'

yeah I see LU5/J65 a lot on 82's. primarily z28 pace cars and recaro T/A's but very few regular z28s and t/a's. sort of makes you think the 10-day theory is bogus.. who knows.
Hi !
I'm from Finland and new here. I have Camaro '82 pace car.
It doesn't look genuine but it is. I've checked the VIN code. It had a crossfire but now its carburated. All crossfire wires ja computerbox are still there. It doesn't look good, but it runs well.
One thing I almost forgot.........it's a pick up, believe or not. I have a picture to prove it. So any comment is a good comment...=)
P.S. Sorry about my bad english

HI My name is Tammy.
After reading thought all the post I guess I do have one of the Rare Pace cars. My husband & I bought our 82 Pace car out of Portland Or. in March of this year. For only $1,500.
The car has the C.I.F (LU5 Engine) & 4 Disc Breaks (J65).
She needs to be restored but thats why we got her for. shes got 105k miles on her & her Interior is shot to heck & back again. Paint job is faded & she has no decals on her but the dash. (the guy we bought it from found the build sheet)
Heres some pics of her

Yes we know we got our work cut out for us. & We know what the car suppost to look like Heck I got enough pics of it on my computer. There are only 2 82 Pace cars in our car club. The other one is a 4bc.
Its going to cost us $1,300 to get the seats done because there is not after market place to get the seat covers or the kits to do these cars.

gotcha. The one I sent you the pics of has the 4 barrel and is also a 4 speed. The only option it doesn't have is the 4 wheel disc. Too bad GM didn't keep better track of these cars and their options. I haven't seen too many 82 Pace cars with a sticker over $14k like this one.
Also, I was supposed to get a 2002 Brickyard car and I still have the opportunity, but finances have been too tough this year without a job. Thanks Qwest!!!! I guess I'll have to wait it out and get one of the new ones in '05

jamppa76 .. not to be intentionally rude or anything, but that car is a real headache to look at and a total waste of a nice would-have-been pace car that could've been worth some good money and a waste of a nice crossfire which i'm sure is gathering dust now or getting the daily UV and weed treatment in some junkyard? ... I hope you enjoy it.. sigh.
Krazzycowgirl, don't give up hope. I personally have started with MUCH worse. If you are interested in it as an investment, give it up, as Nice cars can be had for $5-6,000 and REALLY nice cars under $10,000. I would wager that you will have at least $5-$6,000 in in before you are done(nice driver) unless you are "in" with a good body man. You have a desireable car, so enjoy it!!! Too bad you are not so far away (i am in Ohio) as I would like to see it.

We are looking about 6-7k just for the paint job the car has NO body damage but the Groundeffects which we can get off of ebay or someother place really good price.
$860 for decals on the car. (plus adding a little more for the paint shop to put them on.)
then $1300 for the seats to be redone then what ever else it cost to get the interior on the car.
so we are looking at $10-13k just to get the car show worthly by next years All camaro show. The theme is Race cars & pace cars lol.
I wish I worked for the paddock, I would love the discount....but No.
Sounds like you have everything pretty much figured out with the resto...good luck and keep us updated with the progress.
