Camaro Camaro?

Ok i have a question. There is a 3rd gen camaro running around out in my neck of the woods that on the bumper says camaro in the passengers side corner and on the Ground F/X says camaro were you would normally see RS, Z28, ect. What is this thing? The owner has taken car of it as it sounds and looks very nice and original.

I could be wrong but this is basically an RS. Before the RS was available in the Mid 80's. I think. Anybody else?

Right, for a year or 2 (maybe 90 or so) they dropped the RS designation, and just called the plain Camaro a Camaro. RS was originally a specific trim package that could be added to other models which is why you see things like RS/SS or RS/Z28 from the 60s. For some reason they decided to call them all RS starting in about 88 or so, except for the Z28 models.

I think that it's an '88 model year only thing with the camaro on the ground efx and bumper. It is basically an SC in RS trim.

Yup In '88 GM decided to add the Z style GFX to all base Sport Coupe's, then in 89 they changed the base model to the RS after said model had sucess in its test areas..... The RS ran the remainder of the 3rd Gen production as the "base" model (89-92)

There were 66,605 sport coupes in 88.About 59,271 had the low-rise wing on it so about 7,334 had the 3piece IROC spoiler on them.It might be rare15-20 years from now but not now.

I don't know about "rare" but I have seen a few, not tons of them. Honestly It will always be a base camaro, if you want something that will have value down the line go for an IROC or something similar.

ANY car that has performance and speed will have more value than a slower car, its a matter of history... with some RARE exception.
