History / Originality Got a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!

Ok, this is getting silly...

Ok, this is getting silly...

Is there anyway (short of actually tearing into the engine, apt. mgr doesn't like that!) to verify one way or another what engine my T/A has?

I'm getting all kinds of conflicting information,

My VIN has the "H" code, for non-HO (right?) but:

As far as I know only L69 / 5-spd cars came with 3.73 open rear,
Operating cowl-induction via hood scoop
Stock twin-muffler set up in the rear (instead of single crossflow)
and, this car pulls a hell of a lot harder than a 150 hp 305 should, I don't have any times or dyno numbers on it (yet!) but I think there's a mystery that needs to be solved.

I'm probably the 30th owner on this poor thing, so there's no telling WHAT has been done to it, I'm not even discounting an engine replacement somewhere along the line.

Please let me know if you have any ideas on figuring this out!

Thanks

possible mods

If in fact it has many after-market mods or replacement GM parts, a picture or pics from different areas on the car would be helpful.
If you can, put some pics up

All the mods in the sig are the ones I've done. There isn't any evidence of anything 'unusual' about the car, other than the different rims that were on her.

I'll see if I can add a pic or 2.

Thanks again!

The '83 LG4 "H" 5-speed had a 3.73 rear as an option. You really can't go by the HP numbers as both automatics and manuals are listed as 150HP and you have the cowl induction as well. Look on your block for the numbers. Your engine could also have been rebuilt better or swapped(the numbers will tell you if swapped).

Take a peek at the front of the block, below the right cyl head.

A bit off the topic

You should have all your part VIN locations as was described in my theft recovery thread, that may help.
I'm wondering what digital cam and hardware/software you used to put such great photos up? (compressed I gather?)

I'm using a very cheap USB system now, but want to upgrade.
I'm not very PC tech savvy, I might add.

If its a VIN "H", then its the good ol' LG4 engine.
