wow, good interior's too ... Mine doesn't have the speedo that that first one has ... Looks like it's a standard IROC/Z28 gauge cluster, goes up to 150mph

Then I would be totally questioning things about the whole car. Unless you find the build sheet (which I do beleive you said you did) & it matches the VIN Number. Someone really didnt think your car was worth saving as Org.

*ALL* 82 Indy Pace Cars that were sold to the public had the 85 mph speedo. No exceptions. The original Pace Cars had the 140 speedo and an aluminum block 350.

Well, I had a lot typed here, but the board erased it for me. Let me see if I can remember what I typed.

The original owner did a 6-speed conversion, using parts sourced from a wrecked IROC, that someone had previously done the conversion on. It looks like he got the gauge cluster, and also the dashpad from said vehicle, as it doesn't look like the one that is supposed to be in there. He was planning on putting a built 454 motor into this, but decided to build a twin turbo 383, and stuff it into a 240Z instead. I've got a picture of the dash/gauge cluster, and it shows my 5" tach install (don't hate me, the tach on that cluster reads double what it's supposed to read)

This is a true statement, however there was a 140MPH speedo that was offered thru the dealers for people that wanted it. My first Pace Car had this. It has a small "Z28" at the bottom and the lettering matches the 82 gauges perfectly. I know I remember seeing it for sale in a GM performance catalog a few years ago, but it was not "Factory Installed". I had the documentation on mine that stated it was swapped in when the car was new at the dealer and had 13 miles. Pretty neat feature to get rid of the wimpy 85 one and still match the factory style.

8000 mi car:
I'd like to know who the hell parked a car like that in a yard for 20yrs?
The paint looks awful and it likely does have rusted parts underneath.
The drivetrain will need work!!!
What a shame... at least it will find a proper home I hope.
The interior must be ready fall into shreds from sitting outside.
I wish I found that car 20 yrs ago.

Florida car:
This guy never heard of marketing?
Sure was skimpy on pictures and description!!!

Tom, now I know what you were referring to.

Another rotting Pace Car story. There is an '82 Pace Car sitting just outside Franklin, NC at a used lot. It's been there since Oct '97 and has 56K orig mi. on it. Last time I drove by there which was Christmas day '02 it was still there and had registered about 20 more miles on it since I first saw it in '97! This car needs to be saved by someone but I think he wants too much for it. $4500 I think. Has surface rust all over it.

You would think that they would figure out that it is overpriced after a year or so, but 5 years....that is just ignorant!!!

I think what he is saying is there were no cars that rolled off the assembly line with anything other than a 85MPH speedo, however it was possible to get a 140MPH speedo installed at the dealer when it was new.

Hope this helps..

Read what I wrote! In an earlier statement, it was said that the 140 speedo was available at the dealer. I said that ALL Pace Cars sold to the public came with the 85mph. My dad has the dealer installed, over the counter, after the sale 140 mph speedo.

I am not sure what is different about it, but it is correct. All of my cars have belts exactly like that...

All the Pace Cars had Deluxe Compartment Trim as standard equipment. Yours may have just got removed over the years. Check for the holes for the hinges under the carpet.

I ordered carpet from Classic Industries a month or so ago and it looks dead on....

Started your restoration have you????

I think that they have a print screw up. They should be the same color. I went to the site and the front I ordered was "dark blue" and the rear was "dark royal blue".

So to answer your question...yes

They look like they are the same color to me. If it is different, I sure can't tell.

Ok then question why does my pace car have GREY Carpet?

On the Build sheet (or whats left of it) the carpet numbers are 4061 (front) b697 . lol

Ok another question problem what ever you want to call it.

Here is the body plate as it reads

C 03A 1FP87 L 129889
26G 16L 16U W
AQ9 CC1
D S 267735

(decode PLEASE TOM Or RON)

Sorry if it takes me so long to answer. LOL Is doing this inbetween washing 4 cars. One down 3 to go.
Not washing all 6 cars today.
The two pace cars are going to just have to wait.

Tammy, Tom,
Looks like I've missed on the conversation.
My Pace Car has the locking/folding back cover too. All PCs had it.
I don't need to replace the floor carpet but I might replace the carpet around the rear wheel well if it were available.
I can't decode the tags Tammy, maybe Tom can?
BTW Tammy, did you get your seats done?
Right now I'm working of selling my winter beater before I can work on the Camaro.

Ron,
No I have not got the seats done those have to wait until I start working full time Hoping to get them started this winter. As I was telling Tom I am hoping to be working at a local chevy dealership when it opens up later this summer (maybe fall if they dont start working on the building)

I have already talked to the owner of the dealership & hes been wanting me to put in for the Parts department because I do know some of the information on the cars. (at lease Working knowlegde of some of the camaros, Vettes & the S-10 trucks)

yep..that 26G is what tells you it is a Pace Car.

Sounds like somebody swapped out the carpet. It is not really that strange. I bought one a few years ago and the interior was completely converted to black. I have also seen a few for sale that were converted.

Easy to swap back as long as you have the seats (which I know you do)

What I see of the Vin number on the Build sheet matches my cars Vin (on top) then the bottom one matches to the T
So I am sure its the right Build sheet.

As I said whats left of it.
