Question about 87 IROC Grill...

I just got a new grill to replace the one I damaged in my wreck, and I was curious, is the color of the lettering (it reads C-A-M-A-R-O) supposed to match the trim? My car has the gold trim, and I know that this year had the option of either gold or silver. Anyway, the grill I recieved has the lettering in silver. Is this the only way it comes or can I get it in gold too?

I don't think GM ever serviced the grille with gold lettering. It is only available in the silver lettering.
O.K. theres a note in the GM parts catalog here. "Paint to match using refinishing enamel".

I figured it must only come one way considering it's supposed to be black on all cars no matter what color, correct?

Oh, and can I get that gold paint through gm?

I've never found the gold paint for this grille through GM. It's not listed anywhere in the parts catalog. I would get some gold Testors model paint and a small brush and do it that way.

NO NO NO. IT DOES COME IN GOLD. No doubt about it. I have the gold trim too. Mine came with the gold originally and I've seen it for sale in the gold too. When I had a fender bender a few years ago, it was replace brand new with a gold one.

Now my car is an '89. Maybe it didn't come with gold on the 85-87 Irocs, (pretty sure it did) but it is certainly available now.

OK, check that, I just checked all my catalogs and I don't see the gold. None the less, I know it did come that way. A LOT of gold parts have been discontinued.

Ebay, Ebay, Ebay.

Once you go gold, you never go...uh..(?)...back.

My 87 iroc has the gold trim package and it has "camaro" written on the front in silver. I am not the original owner, and the front end had been hit before I got it, so I can't verify that this is how it came from the factory. Regardless the silver looks right at home if you ask me:
