Time machine to 1982
Time machine to 1982
Well, after a long wait, I finally got my hands on the 82 Trans Am that I purchased last winter. I got the car from the original owner. I even have the hub caps. The tranny is shot. Neat car.

the car actually looks to be in pretty good shape, it looks straight, and does not appear to have any major rust (if any at all)... All it really needs is a paint job and some cleanup...

Oh yah, the louvers are going for sure. The car has is about 98% rust free. There are a few places that have some surface rust. Its pretty neat. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the darn thing.

How many miles?
I was going to suggest if its a low miles car then restore it an keep it for special occasions,
But I think it cimes down to one thing. ENJOY it whatever you do.

I think it has about 90K miles on it. I was going to do an LS1 swap in it, but the LS1 that I have is destined for another car now. In all reality it will probably sit for a little while before I can do anything.

Third gen f-bodies are cheap and plentiful. Seeing as how you found a 82 in decent condition I'd restore it and keep it for those special occasions.
Insurance will be cheap as hell, and you'll never get your money's worth if anything happens to it. I'd look into classic car insurance, but I'm not sure of the exact requirments to get CC insurance.
A restored stock 82 is a beautiful thing!

Have you tried buffing the paint (lots) ?
My car had absolutely no shine at all, and the paint looked worse than yours, look at it now....
it has a pretty much mirror shine all over, it looks like it just rolled out of the showroom!

The thing that gets me is that is has stock exhaust!!!
That is an OEM cut turndown. No aftermarket exhaust co makes one like that, so this must be a southern kind of car?!?!
Real pretty though. I'd ditch the louvers and do a mild resto on it and just keep it stock. That is just a rolling flashback! Very nice!

The car was bought and spent its whole life in Colorado. The climate is very dry there, and they do not salt the roads in the wintertime. I might have a buyer for it now. I really do not want to sell it, but I can't give it the attension that it deserves.

WOW
Look what I found while going through the paperwork that came with the car.
WOW
Along with that came all the original paperwork. I also found the hubcaps neatly wrapped in plastic sitting in the trunk!

Hey Andrew. That should look great after you get it cleaned up a bit. I had those rims on my Firebird. I took them off because they rattled too much. If I remember correctly there are some metal pieces in the hubcap that moves around inside the plastic hubcap. I don't remember what the metal was for, but I do remember that the hubcaps were irritating and I had to remove them. Are those the fifteen inch rims or the fourteen? They look pretty cool if you're going for the all stock look though.

I actually have a set of rims that are similar to those from an 83... There similar to the MSE ones, but without the machining of the fins.
