Two 87 verts, which to buy - Sport Coupe or Z28
Both cars need body work, have rust and need to be stripped, media blasted and completely redone.
Both cars are already red and they will be repainted red so that's not a concern.
Both cars are V8 but a drive train swap would be in either cars future.
The Sport coupe doesn't have any ground effects and the z28 does but I would be changing them over to 91 92 style anyway, same with the hood so I'm not too sure it makes much difference one way or the other.
The sport coupe has 70k on the odometer and the z28 and 98k on the odometer.
The sport coupe runs and drives, the z28 has an intermittent electrical issue with the fan.
The sport coupe is $2000.00 cheaper than the Z28 but it is 10 hours round trip away from me, the Z28... well its a 87 Z28.
Is it worth spending an extra 2k basically to make installing ground effects easier or should I not cut up a rare Z regardless of its present condition.
I'll probably buy one car or the other today so any constructive input would be welcome.
I think the owners of both cars are on this board so please do not make any disparaging comments about either car, I believe my descriptions of both cars are factual.

I have but one point to make. Do NOT modify a rare car (either one) and restore to original condition. This insures keep its value up. Time has shown us that a rare car restored to original condition has the highest value. This is fact.
Personal note: I don't have a problem making mods to rare cars, as long as it's not visual. Keep it looking original, but changes such as rear axle ratio and cam are okay -- as long as you cannot see them. Headers or installing ground effects on a car that originally did not have them are a no-no. This is just my opinion.

Willie I know you helped my buddy Sean with some questions when he supercharged my old 91 TA vert and I respect your opinion but I have seen both these cars and I don't think a restoration would be cost effective on either car.
If I owned a body shop maybe, but to pay to restore these cars would be major cash.
Its unfortunate the 87 Z28 vert wasn't taken better care of but here in MI rust takes its toll on a driven car.

If I could find a 91 or 92 for a good price I would.
Seems people want more for them cause they are 'newer'
You know as well as I do an 87 'should' be worth more but that doesn't seem to be the case around here.
maybe I'll hold off a bit and see what pops up over the winter.
