1988 Iroc, fully loaded, rare? worth...?
There is an 88 Iroc Z down the road from my house for sale, and before I get too interested in it, I'd like to know what you guys think:
1988 Iroc Z
One owner
5.7L TPI
Auto
Posi disk rear
Power locks, windows, seat, mirrors, hatch release
AC
T-tops with bag
Rear louvers
16" Iroc rims
AM/FM cassette ETR with equalizer
Carpeted interior panels (spare tire well, console, etc.)
Rear window shade
Power hatch pull down
Tilt wheel
140mph speedo
Intermittent wipers
Fog lights
New Yokohoma Z rated tires
New stainless 3" exhaust and Flowmaster
The car is near mint, just with some sun bleaching. No rot, rust, or dents. No other mods besides the tires and the exhaust.
The interior is very clean, no smells or stains.
The engine runs perfectly, no noises or leaks.
The car is my dream car... priced at $4500. I would jump at it, except it has 164000 miles. All records or oil changes, repairs etc are available and are all on time.
So, is it worth it for a solid bodied car with tons of options that has high mileage?

Also has a power antenna
But where I am, Irocs are rare to begin with... factor in lots of options, a 350, and a solid body? Impossible to find!
So, what is the car worth, if I was to hand him cash?

Seems like most Iroc's have a lot of options. The stripped down ones seem to be rare, but not desireable (unless it's a 1LE).
As for price $4,500 is pretty steep for that kind of milage. There is a similarly optioned car here in La Crosse for $3,800 with 106,000 miles on it. Reasonably good shape, no rust or dents. So if you can't talk him down to 3,000 I'd pass.

yea thats too much. i bet you could use the extra money to travel much farther to get a lower mile car for less cash. two year ago i paid 3300.00 for my 89 iroc with 89,000 miles. all original except the paint. great condition. i say keep looking.
I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't buy a third gen with that many miles at all lol! Regardless of how well the car was taken care of, that's a LOT of miles... a lot of stuff is old. Consider that more than how much it fits your criteria... another one will come along.
Personally, I would jump on it. But the mileage tho.....ehh....talk him down to around $3,000. A car with that kinda mileage, and nothing is wrong with it - I'd be cautious. Stuff might start breaking down on it right away. If you do happen to get it, be prepared for anything.

Car: 88 IROC
Engine: TPI 305
Transmission: 5 speed
Last week I bought from the original owner a Gun metal gray 88 IROC with 92,000 miles, 16' wheels new tires, nice paint and interior, tilt wheel, cruise control, T-Tops, deluxe sound, power seat, power windows mirrors, 305 TPI, 5 speed, etc. etc. for $1500
The car and engine are solid and original well maintained, garaged and only driven in late spring and summer.
The only problem I know about with the car is it is running rich right now.
