Manual Transmissions in Third Gen Cars
When I was 16(1986) I wanted a new Trans Am with a 5spd but I was told that it was not available and it wasn't an option in the brochure also. I also had a HOT ROD article that compared the TA with a few other cars and they said the TA was the only one of the group with no manual transmission option.
But I was looking at some drivetrain options on the net and it says they were available. What gives?

im not saying if it was a option or not... i was just stating that car dealers lie.

Was it available for the TPI cars before 1987?
Where they available in the states with a manual?
Because all my info says they weren't . I guess I'll have to dig though all my old magazines an brochures to see what I missed.

The TPI Manual tranny option wasn't available until the 1987 model year.
But there were 2 engines you could get a 5-speed with in 1986. The 165 HP LG4 or a 190HP L69.

The L69 HO 305 was available according to the brochure, but very few were actually produced. Whatever was left over from 1985 was used and then that was it. So all that was really available with the 5-speed was the 165hp LG4 305. The auto could be had with both the LG4 or LB9 305TPI.
