The engine code E is for an LO3. I am pretty sure you could get a formula with the LO3 but I am not sure. I will move this to the history board since we are trying to identify your cars guts.

Yes you could get a TBI Formula, but carfax will not be able to tell if you have one.

You will need to get your RPO codes to verify that you have a Formula or a regular base Firebird.

Yes Lo3's were available in formula s' that was the base v8.At the moment i forgot what years could have had them. But I'm guessing they were available in each of the 6 years the formula was out.

I wasn't sure because the tech data didn't list an LO3 with any of the formulas. My knowledge of birds is limited.

S'OK that's why we are all here even i learn new stuff here and i have owned/modified/restored third gen birds for the last 15 years. now my Iroc on the other hand......i don't know as much about camaros but have picked up quite a bit from this site. i have also found that the tech data on this site isn't always complete or correct, when i was considering restoring my 84 Bird i had tried to run the rpo's but there was a number of them that wern't there but there was a guy who decoded them all for me and even sent me nice pics of the available wheels for the car. i forget who (and i hope i don't offend them i did appreciate it) but it was either KIZZ or 82RecaroT/A.

The LO3 was available for only 5 of the 6 years because in 87 the base engine for the Formula was the LG4

It might have been both of us.

I remember your user name. My first Recaro had been titled to a guy in Circle Pines, MN.

dopplereffect:

If your car was a Formula, you would have RPO code W66.

Unfortunately all firebirds with a V8 would come back with a "Formula" designation, wheter or not it was a Formula.

Some Facts about Firebirds & Formulas:

-Formulas came with V8's LG4, LO3, LB9, or L98
-Firebirds came with a V6 or the LO3 V8
-Formulas NEVER EVER EVER came with ground effects (from 87-92)
-The later years from 90 or 91 thru 92, the Title would state "Firebird Formula" if a Firebird came with a V8
-Formulas got the Powerbuldge Hood
-Formulas Got the Aero Spoiler,
-Firebirds got a straight Wing
-Formulas got the gage package

yes, and the WS6 Package was standard,
also 16"x8" rims (which was a part of WS6)

Standard 1987 Formula Wheel, (may have been used on very few 1988's as well):

If I am correct you could not get a 91-92 with a 350 and T tops.

MDformula has a 1991, and they were availble in late 1991 thru 1992, I have seen about 5 personally, there is a black one here in Flint that is an original T-top (not C&C conversion) t-tops (trying to convince owner to sell ), Seen a Red one, there was a few at the T/A nats...

Being that is production # 45812, it is safe to assume the car was produced in LATE 1991. The highest figure I have for 1991 Firebirds is 50,454

Mitch,
I did not mean to offend you, its really a common misconception and to be honest there are alot of things out there about these cars that surprise even the savviest of people here... I remember when I thought that there was no factory T-top 350 cars, and to be honest I am waiting for that day when someone sais I have this car and I have never seen another like it... and he has some rare or thought to be non-existant, but has all the proof. I love that, it makes me tingle inside when something odd appears that is really thought not to exist.

Oddly enough about the Formula, in 1991 and 1992 it appears to be the only model to actually get t-tops and a 350, I have never seen or heard of another model firebird or camaro. I imagine One will turn up eventually, but none as of yet.

Actually, not all Formulas came with the guage package. Only the Lvl 3 WS6 cars came with the 140 Speedo and 8k RPM tach. The T/A's all came with the guage. And if I am not mistaken, the only Formulas to get GTA rims, were 1LE cars, and they only came with a Hardtop, no T-Tops available.

ummm, no, all Formulas got the gage package... ALL formulas got the WS6, Your engine and Transmission package would determine your speedo and tach, but the gages remained. (some years the rear axel, engine and trans would determine your speedo and tach).

The black T/A rims are an option, states so right in the dealer info, you could have gotten them on any formula, although it seems that mostly 350,t-top cars got them. 1LE's did not automatically get you the black cross lace rims either, since I have seen a factory owned yellow Formula 1LE with the standard rims.
