Anyone have a rollout security cover after 88?
Anyone have a rollout security cover after 88?
I'm just curious if these were made after 1988. I read somewhere that the D42 RPO only ran from 82-88, but I could swear I've seen at least one 91-92 Camaro with it. Anyone know?

The RPO could have changed, not unusual... Actually the cover changed somewhere along the line, they went from a Vinyl to a cloth like tecture. I imagine the reason would be 1) cost, and 2) glare. With my 87 I sometimes get some glare on the rear window when the sun is shining. The cloth one would not be as bad.

It may be a misprint, I think the hard plastic well cover was discontinued somewhere in the mid-late 80's. EXCEPT for those camaro's with the Bose Radio.

I saw it on a site listing RPOs and the years they were used. If I find it, I'll post it. I assume the plastic cover uses a different RPO.
It's quite possible it meant the D42 changed from vinyl to canvas between 88 and 89, too. So far, that seems to be the trend here.

The vinyl ones fit into 89+ mounts, according to cdartz, so it should not be a problem.
Has anyone rebuilt the roll-up mechanism on these things? Mine is starting to not want to roll up anymore as well.

All three of my camaros (85, 89, 92) had the covers. I have found several in junkyards that were in excellent shape other than needing a good cleaning. Only cost a couple of bucks each, of course this will vary from junkyard to junkyard and how well you know the owner.
The ones I found were of the cloth and vinyl design.
