86 Berlinetta

Hey guys, in advanced, I'm sorry, I know that this has been beaten to death lol. I have searched for about two hours now and cant find any precise numbers.

I have a 1986 Berlinetta, that came with the 305 carb'd engine. I found that there were roughly 5,000 Berlinetta's made in 1986, but found that a great majority of them were V6's (seeing as that was the base model). Does this mean that there were possibly less than 2,000 V8 Berlinetta's made?

I ask this because currently it's my daily driver, with 102k miles on it... but if it was only one of +/- 2000 made, then perhaps I should start saving money and restore her a lil better.

I know that Berlinettas are not exactly the prettiest Camaros (gold...-shudders-), and I agree full-heartedly with those of you saying that Chevy shouldnt have made a luxury sports car.... but, fact is that they did, so I'm gunna live it up :lala:

Your car isn't going to be worth more due to how many were made. I happen to like Berlinettas though, and it's going to be nice to see some restored examples down the road. Afterall everyone can't own an IROC. Someone has to be different.

The only time it makes sense to spend money "restoring" a car, is if it's the car for you, that you really like, and intend to keep for a long time; or if it's one that attracts interested buyers with money to spend on that particular car from out of the general car-buying public.

Does the car fit either of those categories?

I think we can safely say it doesn't fit #2. If it doesn't fit #1 either (sounds like not) then it isn't a good candidate for dumping money into.

"Rare", plus $1.19, will buy you a cup of coffee most places; and that's about it. Forget about it. Take that word out of your value equation, because it by itself is utterly worthless. It's only of value when coupled with category #2. In other words, it could be the only one that has ever existed; but if nobody cares, then ..... well, nobody cares; and it won't affect "value" so much as one penny.

Uniqueness is something to be proud of; it separates you from the dime a dozen crowd.

Go ahead and fix her up, a little here and little there.

So the Berny was a little ahead of its time (are not all sports cars nowadays luxury sports cars?), don’t let that hold you back.

Keeping your car running and looking nice is a wise investment in your time and money.

I also have a 86 berlinetta with a V8. There were 4.479 made. I've learned that doesn't mean it's rare. It's only as rare as you keep the passion for the car! Another thing to consider is half probally came with t-tops and half came with hard tops. Mine came with t-tops and has a grey interior. I think they came with grey or maroon interiors. Everybody in south Mississippi has a 3rd gen it seems, but no one has a 86 camaro berlinetta

The Camaro Berlintta was GM's try to sell a car to the other Gender because Marketing told them they did not want to buy a performance car in the like of a Z-28 or IROC. But it didn't sell.
So is it Rare, ask youself if you want to say " come and see my
Berlinetta".:hail: :hail: :hail:

thanks guys Basically reinforced what i was thinking. Right now I am still learning to love her. I had my heart set on a IROC, but you know, every one and their dog has an IROC it seems, and being able to say that I have a completely different Camaro than anyone else has is kind of cool I do think I'm going to get rid of that black and gold trim. As soon as I can purchase proper painting supplies.

I dont think I'm even going to THINK about keeping it resembling stock, I'll just turn it into whatever I want it to be GFX, rear wing, new rims and a CD player are on the top of my list!!!

(EDIT) Oh, and I think that IROC rear quarter panels (for the fender flares) are up there too.
