What cars got black headlight pockets and which didnt? I cant seem to dig up anything on the subject, and my research is pretty much inconclusive, does anyone know the answer to this one?

 

These are the one's that had them

82-87 Z28 (non-IROC)
85-90 IROC-Z
90-92 Z28

not all 82-87 z 28 my 85 had body colored pockets.

As was mentioned....

ALL 82-92 Z28's (including the IROC-Z) had black headlight pockets, the 92 Heritage Edition RSs, the Berlinettas and the 87 LT.

The LT could also have a grey metallic, depending on body color.

All black cars got black pockets regardless of body style..

JeffW, **ALL** Z28s had black pockets from the factory. The only way yours wouldn't is if it was damaged during shipping and the front end was incorrectly repainted.

You are correct! Add the 86 sport coupe to the blacked out headlight pocket list.

 

On a side note, just to add on to what SM and others said, cars that recieved black headlight pockets that were black in color also recieved semi-gloss headlight pockets and not gloss like the rest of the car. They had the contrast also but it's obvioulsy difficult to notice.

 

My first 91 that I purchased brand new, had to be repainted under warranty about 6 months after I bought it. It took me forever to explain to them that they were not finished because the headlight bezels were not semi-gloss. I had to bring the sales brochure and show them "Special exterior appearance with black-painted headlamp openings,.......". Then they said that it looked better matching the body (which was black). I told them that I bought a Z28 and I expected it to look like it was suppose to. They finally got it right. Wish I had it back!......
