original Sparkplug Wires
When I go to do my next 87 Formula, I want it to be as Original as possible. With that in mind I want to go back to the OEM Packard Wires.
I know there are better wires out there, so lets not go there.
Originally I belive they had the numbers fore each cyl, I want to get a set of wires with the numbers on them. Any idea where I could score some. Someone suggested to try a new car dealer. Unfortunately if I go to my local GM authroized reseller car parts store, the wires they have are plain packard wires.

John, I was concerned about these issues also until I was informed that replacement parts are acceptable for "original" classification at shows. I don't know if that's what you're after or not.
Judges know that tires, plugs, batteries and other items are needed and the originals are not always available. Be careful when trying to keep original. I paid dearly for original parts when my fuel pump relay, hood struts and AC needed fixing. The fuel pump relay needed to be replaced 3x in 4 years before I went to an aftermarket replacement. The same with the hood struts. They are old also and didn't last. The AC was recharged with R12 to keep it original and I was informed that R134 is a valid replacement, even at 1000 point judging.
I won't modify my car, but I also will not pay premium prices for new "old" replacement parts.

I installed brand new AC Delco/Packard spark plug wires on my 84 T/A back when I got it in 1998. They looked identical to the originals except the rubber boots at the distributor didn't have the nubs that clip into the plastic retainer on top of the distributor cap. The date codes were obviously 14 years newer too.
I don't know of anybody reproducing date coded HEI plug wires yet. I know they are made for the old points style ignitions as I have a set of 3Q70 date coded Packard wires on my September 1970 build '71 Trans Am.

Hey Dens71TA!
Nice collection you got going!
Question for you.
Did your '84 TA come stock with those wheels from the factory?
I am trying to find a car that did. I don't have a cutoff date when they were stopped.
Thanks,
George

That picture on my website was made with Microsoft Paint. I used a wheel picture off of Geezer's '82 Trans Am webpage and pasted them onto a picture of my 84 T/A. It actually has the factory N78 15x7 rims as its a WS6 car.
I do have a set of the N89 15x7 rims that I will install as soon as I find some realistically priced hubcaps. They are usually around $10-$15 each at the swapmeets so I should have a set by spring. I actually passed on a set of NOS black 15" hubcaps for $20 a few years ago because I didn't know at the time that the 14" and 15" hubcaps used different methods of attaching to the rim. I thought the 15" hubcaps where missing the attaching clips. I have a NOS 14" brushed finish hubcap I picked up about five years ago ...
I have seen one '84 Trans Am with the 14" N89 rims. It was a basic white/brown interior '84 T/A ordered with no performance options owned by an older gentleman. The car was totally original and had 63k miles.

Hi 3rdgenparts!
What info are you looking for?
I have Car bulletins from Pontiac, as well as the brochures and dealer books.
Sometimes you luck out when you buy the dealer books, they include the bulletins!
have a good one,
George
