Did you buy the white MSE '82 T/A that was on eBay a week or two ago? I think it was in NY.

I was watching that white 82 Mecham on ebay. It looked like a nice parts car or project, looked like all the Mecham stuff was there.

yep , i bought it . Id really like to restore it but its way too gone. The drivers side and passengers side floorboard is gone and just has some tin riveted it . The rear quarters inside near the front is see through and the other side is like that . Both doors are shot and need to be replaced . By the shock towers its rotten and by the firewall its rotten . And it needs a new nose and passenger side fender.I mean id liove to keep it . I can vision how it looked stock and lookin at it and looks so cool , but its too far gone . If the doors and nose and fenders and floors were gone id think about doing it , but the engine bay is wrecked too . ITs so sad. Its number 89 for 1982 . So i think im gonna part it out , you know the wing and rims and mse stuff or just keep it for later for another car if i get another . But if i could get some money for all the parts off the mecham id get air ride for my 85 . So i dunno. I mean the car looks cool , but its too much work .

lol I'm sure my car was more rotted out than that one!!
Mine had no floors, no metal behind the taillights, no inner wheelhouses, no lower 1/4s... etc. etc.
I was bored. The car now looks great, but no paint yet lol
So, do it! Rebuild it to all it's glory!

i dont know if i have the motvation to fix it to its glory . It would be easier to take all the stuff off and put it on another car.
Hi!
In 1982, the MSE did not use the sailpanel decals with the wreaths!
It started in 1983, after the MSE Trans Ams won the championship!
I believe that the front spoiler started in 1983 also.
Too bad about the car! Still though, it could be brough back! Just cost $$$ to do! Hate to see you get rid of it, and find out that they are going up in value! Can you afford to keep it, without doing anything yet?
Hope this helps,
George

mr turbo ta , i can afford to keep it and do nothing to it.But its just gonna be so much work . But if i had a garage or lived in a florida or arizona climate it would be better cause our 6 car garage is full and then i could work on it outside. What need to happen is to pull everything off and then go to it . but i cant do that now , so maybe ill just wait . Im still up in the air on the whole thing . The other idea was to keep all the good stuff and get rid of the car and get another.
Hi 18inchboyds!
Granted, it is your car, and you can do with it what you want, I just feel that a car like that, should be restored to it's former glory, no matter how much the price, or how long it takes!
If you can keep it till you, or someone else, can do it right, you would be saving a collector car from the scrapheap, and be able to show it to the world. The car number alone is worthy of trying to keep it!
I would sell it complete, before paring her out!
But, that is just my opinion. I myself have some projects going, and things always seem to come up, pushing my projects back further! But, I've got the rest of my life!
Good luck with whatever you decide,
George

i read that all mecham ta's started as 4 speed and then the auto was an option. So does this mean mine has all the provisions for the 4 speed and that mecham took out the 4 speed and put the autop ini or it was standard to have the 4 speed and it was a factory change to the 4 speed?

What do you mean by provisions? I don't think there is much to leave, as these had a mechanical clutch and not hydraulic.
I'd say if the pedals are gone, all of it is!

GM makes a habit of making cars interchangable between manual and automatic. It makes assembly at the plant easier.
All the bolt holes and access holes should already be there. The only thing you would have to do is cut the hole for the tranmission shifter.
I converted my '71 T/A from an auto to a manual. All the bolt holes where there for the Z-bar and reverse light linkage. There was a plate screwed onto the firewall for the pedal pedal rod. All I had to do was cut the hole in the trans tunnel.
