Fairly common on '82-84 Firebirds. I believe it was standard on all S/Es. It was discontinued after 1986.

It's rare to find one that works!
They also didn't have a separate resevoir, so they ran that thin piping all the way down the car... I'm sure it would be great if it dry rotted and leaked inside the car lol

I worked with a guy back in high school who had an Iroc with it. I had never seen it, and have never again seen it. Kinda weird and pointless.

This is real funny.
But I noticed recently when driving my 82 Bird back to NC during a rain storm on I95, the rain naver touch the rear window. Since the air flow across the back glass keeps its clear, there is no use for a wiper.

The interior plastic on the deck's underside accomodates the wiper motor so it does look a bit different.

My brothers 85 z28 with the rear wiper, he wants to eventually get a non wiper hatch for it and get rid of the washer nozzle. It does actually work too. It doesnt look as bad and bulky in person, it doesnt really bother me. That pictures seems to make it stand out more.

The rear wiper works the best on cold mornings when the rear window is covered in ice or frost. After starting the car and letting the rear defroster melt the frost you can just get in,.... clear the window by pressing the wiper button and drive away.
If the ice was heavy and didn't melt completely than you can use the rear wiper to help get it off ( while driving ) rather than getting out of the car again and scraping the rear window so you can see thru it.
I like seeing out the back window,........ It took me a long time to get used to rear louvers and even longer to get used to a roll bar. But some people don't use the rear-view mirror much and see no reason to add the extra weight or expense of an unwanted option !!
You can see the rear wiper plastic hatch trim on the inside of my Berlinetta in this picture. The location of the rear wiper motor is obvious because of the large 'pocket' in the plastic trim that's needed to cover the motor.
