Help with VIN for 1990 Formula
I am looking at a Formula in a local ad, car is very clean with only 90k miles on it, always garage kept. Pretty sure (unfortunatly) that he has the TBI in it, and I think that may mean the L03, Ughhh. Does have a 5spd in it though.
Our VIN decoder is not up and running so wondering if one of the gurus on this site can decode it for me.

What do you guys think this may be worth.

With the help of 3rdgenformula.com....
1-USA
G-GM
2-Pontiac
F-Camaro/Firebird line (F-body)
S-Firebird Formula
2-2 door coupe
3-?????
E- 305 TBI (LO3)
7- check digit (whatever that means??)
L- 1990
L- Van Nuys
207497-Production numbers
The vin does in fact confirm that is an LO3...
Couldnt figure out what that 7th digit meant... but im sure Okfoz will be able to.

Yeah thats to bad, really clean Formula but I am turned off by the L03. Has everything else I want. I like the fact that this is a one owner vehicle that resided in a garage. Totally stock not beat up or hacked up by some young kid.

I'm not really a TBI guru, but even i realized how much potential the 305 TBI has by reading this article...

I would atleast read it before you decide to pass on that Formula.

I could probably get this one for $2500 he's asking $2800. My last third gen was the car in my sig that I recently sold, to bad the seller is not closer I would take it for a test drive, I just have this feeling that the difference in power from what I was used to is going to nag at me. Sure it could be built up or even swapped at at some point so maybe!

$2500 for that car is a pretty good deal. Looking at that pic, its a clean car.
I would think that the car with the LO3 is worth $2500 to $4000 depending on the options, miles and the condition.
If it was a 350 TPI car tho I would say its worth about $5000 to 6000 in todays market...

I think its a fair price for a car that appears in pics to be pretty clean, its just not exactly what I want so I need to feel I got a great deal to move with a purchase.

The 3 that you couldn't figure out is for the restraint system. 3 is for a car with manual seat belts and a driver's side airbag. (From the Firebird Red Book)

One other thought about how much and is it worth it, and should I or not. I know that it is probably nothing special, but that is now. It may be worth a lot more in the future, simply because since they made ones like it by the hundreds, nobody bothered to keep them or take care of them. You could probably track down just about every SD455 Firebird ever made, but how about the base model Firebird that had the 250ci 6 cylinder engine? And how many of them will you find with the original owner in excellent condition?
