TTA fender emblems
I just ran a couple of searches for this but I couldn't find an answer. There is a TTA on Ebay right now and in the description the seller says
"Car was built without "turbo" emblems on front fenders.(factory ran out during production after the first 250 or so cars)"
I've been on this site a while now, and a TTA is my dream car, and with that being said I'm still far from being an expert on them. Is this true? Did they really run out of emblems? I've never heard it mentioned here before but I figured you guys would have the answer. Of course he also says in the ad that the 200r4 can't handle the turbo 3.8 so he had to rebuild it at 40k miles. I know there are several people on here running modded TTAs with stock trannys, and tons of GN guys doing it as well, so I know this is BS.
"Stock horsepower is 301 and these transmissions were never able to handle it. Due to the Buick engine block it uses a 200r4, not a 700r4 as it should have been."
Never able to handle it.....haha
Anyway, is the fender emblem thing true or BS?

There was a problem with production of the emblems during the build of the cars.
So yes, alot of cars were build without the emblems.
There is documention stating this sent to the dealers, some of us have this copy.
The emblems were then shipped to the dealer, which was to install the emblems for the customer.
My car is #231, and it came without the "Turbo Trans Am" front fender emblems.
However, it was also missing one of the "Indy" wings on the lower aero package.
The dealership lost my first set of fender emblems, and had to reorder them. Once they came in, I took them, and installed them myself. I did the same once the "Indy" wing came in.
My thinking was, they were suppose to be on the car. So, I put them on.
Alot of owners think the car was built without them, so they don't install them.
I guess either way is correct.
As for the tranny holding up, most owners race the car! hard! I mean real hard! With less than 500 bucks, these cars are dipping into the lower 12s, higher 11s. Alot of people have the car in the 10s. Well, not alot, but a few.
Mine is stock, in the 13s still. But I do have the goodies to drop my times!
Feel free to check out http://www.turbotransam.com or any TurboBuick board. If you have the time, check out some people's webpages.
I hope this helps abit,
George

Hmm, so hes not completely full of BS. Good to know. As for the TTA website.....been there again and again and again droooled again and again and again
And yes most people do race them and hard, however there are people out there with 100k + miles on their TTA/GN with the 200r4 running strong. This guy claimed he never raced his TTA and the tranny had to be rebuilt at 40k.
BTW didn't you used to have a 15th anneversary TA? Or maybe I'm thinking of one of the other members......but I thought for sure it was you.

Nope,
Not me, but I do know that guy.
Last I heard, he sold the 15th to someone here on the board, who sold it to someone else.
Check out turbobuick.com, they have a FAQ section, which has some good onfo.
The 20th TTA guys are sorta close knit, but they all are willing to help out other people.
Prices are really good right now for these cars, so it may be a good time to pick one up.
Have a good one,
George

Mine lasted 70k, but since the car was drived off the showroom floor it has seen a lot of street racing (89-91' was a lot of fun
) and about 50 1/4 mile passes.Problem with the 200-4R is the filter sucks in fluid from under the valve body, not the bottom of the pan. In a quick accelerating car, like the TTA, the fluid rushes to the back of the pan and the filter sucks in air, pump cavitates and you burn the clutch band.

Tranny lasted about 30K miles. Snapped the input shaft.
Mine was 1387 and never had the fender emblems on the car. I had a letter stating that they would give the owner a call when they came in. Took a couple of months. Had that letter also. They were just put in the owner's box. I liked it better without the emblems, much cleaner and more stealth

Actually you would be amzed at how stupid people can be :-)
Mine says Official Pace Car down the sides and has all badging lol
People still have no clue what it is cause its not a black buick lol
Whomping on vettes is fun, so are stangs and 4th genners lol
Only people who know what they actually are either want one or are a diehard car guy, as for the rest, they dont quite put two and two together.
I'm sure most of the other guys would back up what I am saying. Not talking the local street racing hotspots(although I have had a few of them assume 350TPI) either, but more day to day or occasional punk wanting to line up nites.
