I have a quik question. Did or could you have gotten different rims for IROC's from the factory. I don't mean like painted Iroc rims, I mean different ones all together. I was told you could, but I never have seen them any where.

Not sure but, I think from 85-87 the 16 inch IROC rims were standard, but from 88-90, they gave u an option between the 15 inch Z28 rims and the 16 inch IROC rims.

I don't think there was an option for them, just Z28 rims or IROC rims. I have never heard or seen that.

He's right. '85-'87 had 1 style of 16 inch rims only, and '88-'90 had the Z28/RS style 15 inch 5 spokes standard, with a slightly revised 16 inch rim offered as an option.

88 actually had 2 different sets of optional wheels. The 15" Z28 style wheels were standard, with 15" IROC style wheels being optional. The 16" IROC style wheels were also optional. I believe that after 88 the 15" IROC wheel became standard and the z28 wheel was no longer used.

Ah Jim, I think ya got me there!!! Yeah, I think I may have seen 15 inch IROC style rims, but not in a LONG time...can anyone else shed some light on this??
However, the 15 inch Z28/RS style wheel I have seen on an '89 IROC, and supposedly they were the original rims. Can anyone else shed some light on this?

I thought 88 was the only year that used the Z28 style rims, but I'm by no means sure of it. It's very possible that they were still used in 89.
The 15" IROC wheels look 100% identical to the 16" except they're smaller! I have a friend with an 89 with ~20,000 miles on it, and he's got the 15" wheels. I don't like how they look at all. Original or not, I would have upgraded the wheels if it was my car. It looks especially horrible with RWL tires. I kinda wish that GM took the initiative to use an 8" wide wheel instead of a 7". That would have at least given the IROC wheel a performance advantage over the Z28 wheel, but I imagine that the requirement for a different size tire would have driven up costs.
