You guys think so negative. I think the TPI LB9 5 speed and the L98 low mileage clean thirdgens (Z28,TransAM/GTA, Iroc, Formulas) will be worth something one day

I definatelly see these cars going up in price, but not the rs or stock camaro the z28s and the irocs will pull more money depending on condition at the moment. the iroc convertibles seem to be going up like crazy. it will be a while tho before they really start pulling some money. 5- 10 years!

They are going back up right now as we speak. Here's a link to the official price guide. All Third gens can be found in the "sport car section, but pre 87 cars, and 87 convertibles can be found in the "collectible car" link. In case you can't find the links, look in the left hand center of the page.
NADA guide
A good example is the fact that an 87 Z28 convertibles has an average value of $6925 with a high retail value of $11,825 when the cars MSRP was only $17,632. in the 90's you could have picked one up in okay shape for less than 5k and fixec it back up and have a car worth much more than you have invested.
86 IROC Z28's like mine, the "armpit of the entire line", have a average value (with factory ac) of $4318 with a high value of $6710. $I only paid 1750 for my car because I got it in need of body work, and from a guy getting divorced. I now have a total invested of about 4k, but half of it is in extra performace parts that cost too much and I didn't need. I could have easily restored the car with another thousand. The cars msrp was only $12,597.
The price of any popular car, especially one with a history like the camaro, will always stop losing value eventually and gain back some money. No if you bought the car from a dealer you will probably not make your cash back, but if you are a second hand buyer it is highly possible.

I can not believe how many people can not believe that our cars are going up in value. I do not know if its doubt, or what but this is the 3rd one of these topics brought up in the last few months.
I think its proof that there appreciating, especially the earlier 3rd gens, there to the age where the nice ones are far and few between. Just because there were a Million of them made does nothing to their value. I have said it before, they made almost as many 57 Chevies in one year, and see how valuable they are.
GET OVER IT. Your cheep ole 3rd gens are going bye bye, the good ole days of cheep 3rd ges is being replaced by more expensive 3rd gens. Its not long buys and girls... give it around 5 years and I bet all of us that have sat on a couple of cars will be sitting pretty.

Most of the value books are no where near real world estimations right not for what these cars are going for. IMHO

my dad did the same thing. He always talks about them with me cause I'm into cars more than he ever was. If he's 52 years old. If he had kept just 2 of the cars he had when he was 25 (like his 67 camaro with a 454 in it) he would be able to take a break form working for a while.
The Camaro and Firebird, and have always been considered apart of americana. When you think of the big hair 80's you can't help but think of a guy (with long hair) driving around in his camaro, blasting around town with his radio blairing. These cars we own are American icons. They will be in high demand in the near future.

When the LAST 3rd gen turns 20, watch out!!!, I will bet money that they will appreciate quickly, I think even better than the Mid to LATE 2nd gens...
As far as Late 2nd gens go the ones to have are the Bandit ones, I still contend than anything with the higher HP especially the later 3rd gens will be worth the most.
Not including Specialty cars like TTA & Firehawk & Heritage Camaro's here are the ones to have:
TPI - 350
TPI - 305/M5
L69 - 305/M5
TPI - 305/A4
CFI
It all boils down to engine...

I only partially agree with that. The convertibles are worth the most and will be for their few numbers. Only for this reason. Only 28,183 third gen verts were produced all together. That's less than the total production of camaros all together in 1990, which was the slowest year for production with only 34,896 produced. For Firebirds only 3,829 verts were produced all together. Verts are the cars to own, especially for firebirds.
