other eaton car makes it to the track

I ran the car, really for the purpose of tuning it only.

really didn't try with it too much.. I didn't want to destroy anything. I had loaded 2 of my tool full sets in the car, and filled the tankall the way up 2 miles before i got there. used my 17inch rims, didn't air down the tires or anything..

The only i did that might have helped it was fill the water injection tank with -20 degree washer fluid ( 53% methonol)

The car ran 107 without water injection and with it ran 110mph.. I had a 2.4 60 foot (again not trying.. just driving off the line) for comparison my best MPH has been a 106 (usual mph has been around 104) and my usual nothing special 60foot has been 1.77's I was using my 17 inch remington tires so i didn't even to attempt to get traction.

Without water injection I had to pull 1.5 degrees per psi (13.5 degrees of timeing retard) at wide open.. with water injection I had it set at 4.5 total degrees retard and it still wasn't reporting any spark knock, I might have been able to go with more timing. I think i was spraying too much because you can see white steam coming out the back.

The temeperature was in the late 50's early 60's

the labtop was reporting 460rwhp and 500rw ftlbs of torque.. before the blower it was 340rwhp

I did run down several trailerd race cars... even though they would get about 5 car lenghts on me at the begining I would either pass them or at least catch them by the end.

we've got the car on video racing a slick/skinny drag notch back mustang. Hes got the car stalled up, and the cam is lopeing big time... He jumps in front of me at the start and by the 1/8 mile i'm running him down hard.. I ended up beating him.

I'm going to have to get the guys to put that video on the internet for me.... its sick seeing the car running down this other car.. you can really see where I really lay into the gas like half track... it looks like it crawls off the line then comes to life.

Nothing is better than a car that pulls 18 inches of vaccum, gets 18mpg city, and has perfect driveablity beating a trailered drag race car. Its also way cool to run faster way faster mph than the old motor launching the crap out of it on drag radials and having to deal with a big cam's driveablity and RPM. (this motor is shifted at 5400rpm with this new motor)

I've got one datalog where I don't get into fully until 42mph and it spins the tires up to 52 then drops back down to about 46. The car definately has some serous power. the other datalogs really show the water injection cooling the intake charge from 80 degrees to 50 in a matter of like a second or two. You can also see me using 1/2 to 3/4 throttle until deep 2nd gear.

I had a great time. I didn't expect to set any records didn't want to.. I think i might go dyno the car to get serous results but my days of taking the car to the track with slicks, hardly no gas and no front sway bar are over. I just don't want to beat on the car that I drive up to 300 miles per week.

thanks,

what do you think?

Iknow bob only trapped 99 or so with his real bad 60foot..

the trap speed is the only thing telling me this is working well.

Really i'm just happy i don't have to strip the car down, put the slicks on, or spin the car up to 6600rpm, get better mileage and still trap faster than the old cammed motor setup

What track/elevation/conditions? How about an et?

what is your pulley ratio/shift point? What did the car run before this (I don’t remember your engine combination at all). How much boost were you seeing? I wish you had some better 60’s so that you could make a better comparison, but with an ET I could make a guess on what you were loosing to the slow launch.

To be honest, I would expect more from an LT1 with a blower… My brother’s car was always comparable to my stock LT1 before the blower and has run mid 11’s at 119 with just the single M90 (I’ve run slightly faster in the LT1 with what I am guessing was about a 125hp shot of N2O, guessing because it had the 150hp jets in it but the progressive controller was set so it never came completely in…)

What are you using to estimate HP with the laptop? That seems way high for the MPH that you ran (FWIW, my brother’s car has actually dyno’ed in the mid 320’s a few times in the same trim that it’s run 119)

i'm using TTS datamaster... It was 7hp off from a true actual dyno when i tried it on motor.

One of the guys has the car on video.. I don't get on it fully until mid 2nd gear and it still trapping 110... it looks like it accelerated harder mid track when i went full throttle than it did off the line. I'd expect it to trap around 114-115 with a good lanch and 100% throttle the whole time.

I mean that night it only trapped 86mph in the 1/8 but it trapped 110 in the quarter... on the old setup it would trap 88-89 in the 1/8 and 105-106 in the quarter. That right there shows you i'm not using any power anywhere in the begining

flat out... just didn't try with the car give me about 5 minutes and i'll post some proof that i sissy drove the car off the line.

that was about the fastest MPH run.. i recorded all 4 runs for the night..

theres anthor one where i lay into it faster but it breaks the tires loose like 52mph and then falls back down to 40ish..

BTW.. don't pay attention to the stock narrowband voltage.. its coming out to be about 12:1 on the wideband. also i don't know what the deal is with the DC.. theres no possible way its doing what its saying... TTS has screwy duty cycl readouts.. others have confirmed this on Cz28.com

GRRRR...

I just want to send out a thank you from all the dialup users out there for believing that attaching a 2.25mb .bmp to your post was a good idea...

How about cropping, resizing and converting it to some sort of reasonable format, or deleting it.

Rooster- your estimates sound about right to me. I recently confirmed that I'm making a REAL 450HP @ flywheel from my roots-blown 383, which merely confirmed my estimates that were based on weight (round about 3600-3700) and my trap speed (115) through an automatic trans. Sounds like you'll be about the same.

Many people are not impressed by my numbers and that's fine- I didn't build it to blow minds. There's just something really entertaining about laying into a roots-blown powerplant where all the boost is available RIGHT NOW! Like you, I have trouble keeping the tires planted below about 50 MPH (anywhere in 1st gear in my case). And very few people have seen a setup like that!

The guy at the dyno asked me what it was. "What WHAT is?", I asked. That thing there [he motioned towards the blower belt]. "It drives the supercharger." "Oh, so THAT'S what that is!" "Um, yep."

It was almost as fun as the first time I laid into it on the rollers. People screaming at me to shut it down. I didn't know what the problem was. They wanted to throw a second set of straps on the rear of my car and tighten them down more. They said I almost jumped the car off the rollers when I hit the gas and the tranny downshifted. Fun stuff.

What computer are you using to run your setup is it a 749 or aftermarket? Had any problems with tuning it, I've heard it said that roots blowers are hard to tune but don't know it to be true?

I'm using a speed density LT1 computer... I would be cake if i had access to a mass air or 749..

The tuning was hard, but i'm very experenced with tuning cars so in the end i got it to work out.

I just started re-writing the code to try to get a 2 bar sensor to work with the LT1's computer.. The car cranked and idled, but needs a bunch of work to get it to operate correctly
