Berlinetta

I am thinking of restoring my 84Berlinetta with the same paint, interior, etc. I have the original engine and tranny. I don't really like the 700r4, and would prefer a 5 speed. Would this add to or depriceate from the value of my car. Also, is a Berlinetta worth restoring. I understand they are semi rare, but it isn't an Iroc or Z. But is this car worth it? 84 was the year of the Star Wars dashes etc, so would that add to anything? Thanks

Right now it isn't worth any more than a similar condition sport coupe. The future may hold greater value but I wouldn't bet on it. Do what you want to the car, its yours.

I'd tend to agree with Drew... regardless of how many there were, nobody really cares about them that much. Rarity by itself doesn't make something valuable.

Berlinettas are not rare at all; in fact at the time they seemed nearly as numerous as Z28s in 84. They were very popular especially with young women (!), who wanted the sporty image and the dressed-up look those cars had compared to most others but didn't know or care about speed. And even then, and LG4-equipped Berlinetta was basically just as fast as a LG4 Z28.

If you like the car, in the color it came and all that, then by all means make it back like it was. But I doubt it will impact the market value one way or the other.

So Basically what you are saying is that I now have a chick magnet! Either that, or a car for little girls! I think I'll probably just do what I want with it, and have fun. thanks alot.

the Berlinetta is becoming rare!

there are 3 of them in the town i live in, a blue,a red and my silver,

No one knows about the berlinetta, therfore they don't care about it, I have had guys offer me $3000.00 for my car, (i paid 400) for a 84 w/ rust so to some that know about the berlin' it is worth alot, others prefer a Z

Also, the 84 is the year it had the digital dash, etc..(Mine dosen't work.. ) So, it seems that would also add to it's rarities. Wouldn't it be kinda boring if everyone had an Iroc or a Z? just my opinion though.

I see more berlinettas around here than sport coupes... Personally I hate them. Since they fell into the hands of mostly women and weren't cared for correctly most of them are trashed.

Well, mine is in decent shape, but I know what you mean about them being trashed. I actually haven't seen any around here, just sport coupes and z's. Nobody around here really knows about them, so it always adds to a conversation.
