ASC Camaro 'vert. Are they all?

I found one in the boneyard that had an ASC decal on the inside of the drivers door. Were they all built there? The build date for this car said 4/87. Is this one of those desirable 87 'verts? or is it an 88?

All "production" Camaro convertibles have the ASC decal.

If it was built in 4/87, it is a 1987. Is it a Sport Coupe or Z28? Where is the damage and do you feel it is salvagable?

It says IROC-Z on the doors

Its pretty stripped, except for the body, wing, some of the lights (3rd brakelight is there), and ground effects. The drivetrain and front suspension is gone. The rear springs are in the trunk. It has power locks and wondows. Iit was hit mildly hard in the drivers side, and must have suffered frame damage. I know the yard would probably sell the whole car, but it would be spendy and not come with a title.

Did you happen to get the VIN off the car?, this would determine if its a official '87 convertible or not. is there a 20th anniversary pouch on the right side of the dash? my '87 has the ASC decal in the door too, mine was built 03/87. Chris

I have a question concerning these cars, if indeed were speaking of the same two. First, is this the model we're speaking of...

Are ASC and auto form synonymous as I have found two owners who say Auto Form of Elkhart, Indiana did their cars? Or did each company have a contract with GM for building these cars?

The car you posted is NOT an ASC car. The differences aren't subtle. Notice the bumps behind the seats of the car you posted? Its a 2 seat roadster. The 2 seat version is rather tacky and dated in my opinion. They show up on Ebay for next to nothing all the time. All the 2 seat cars were either sent by dealerships or by the customer to be converted.

The ASC cars on the other hand have a complete backseat. ASC was the only GM approved company to do the convertible conversions. GM sent ttop camaro's to ASC from 87-92 for conversion to convertibles, and Firebirds from 91-92.

ASC in Livonia, MI was producing convertible Firebirds as early as August '87.

That may be true, but however GM didn't officially offer a Firebird convertible until 1991. Any earlier Firebirds that were converted to convertibles would either have been sent by a dealership or an individual.

Ok, NOW I'm confused.
The red convertible that is pictured in this post came from the dealer as a two seater??

I thought that cover behind the front seats was a after market thing.
I've seen aftermarket hard shell tops for 4th gen models but never for the 3rd gen.
If it came from the dealer like that then that would explain why I can't find that hard shell rear seat cover thingy anywhere.

I saw one 3rd gen convertible around town here in Lancaster, CA a few weeks back and wanted to follow it badly to find out where he got the top, but it's actually a two seater convertible??

Hmm......

Anyone know of any aftermarket reproductions of this lid/cover??
I'd like to get one.

91 Mystic Teal RS Convertible. 305 TBI, Auto, stock.
125,000 miles and still going strong.
Only minor mods planned for the near future.
Like headers, flowmaster exhaust, some ignition mods, K&N airfilter, Perhaps a chip if needed.
Waiting for the motor to blow up so I can install a ZZ4 crate motor. Let's just hope it don't blow up too soon.

I am not aware of anyone making this cover to fit our ASC 'verts. I imagine it would take major reworking to fit that one onto yours. It would be easier to make it from scratch.
