Berlinetta

I have a friend who might be buying one really soon, I was hoping you could give me as much info on them as you know about.

I don't know much about them other than they are often ignored.

Thanks.

Go read the tech data on the main page.
https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml

That'll give you more than a little to go on. To sum up, the Berlinetta was the Camaro version of a luxury car. Soft suspension, Soft seats, small engines, etc.. Typically they're in bad shape, and hold same or less value than an equivelant coupe.

Thanks, for the info and link.

I've only seen the car once, and that was a year ago. The owner wants to sell it for $1700. He is going to test drive it sometime this week I think and I'm going to go with him. Do you have any idea about how much they go for now in fair shape?

Go to KBB.com run a trade in value in fair condition. Generally Kelly tends to be high, if you run it as FAIR and Trade in, you generally get a typical market value. Keep in mind it'll probably still be higher than the cars true worth.

Thanks once again. Yea, Kelly seems to be a little high, but for the most part it's good for a ballpark estimate.

I was talking to some friends who have rode in it a couple of times before and they said it's an '86 and that he ran it pretty hard. The tires are worn pretty good and other than that everything is supposed to be fine. The guy wants to sell it as fast as possible, so he can get a 1st Gen, which I think could help knock the price down to $1500 or lower. But, first we have to see how it drives before we start price knocking.

Car: 1984 Camaro Berlinetta
Engine: LT1
Transmission: T56 6-speed
Axle/Gears: 4.11 LS1 Rear End
A Berlinetta was "BASE" priced from GM at about the same price as a "base" Z. Keep in mind that A "base" Berlinetta had a V-6 while the "base" Z had a V-8,..... & the cars were still priced about the same when new.

ANY Berlinetta is worth more than a sport coup of the same year for several reasons like the "standard" full gauge package & the "standard" custom cloth interior. Every Berlinetta has these things - while they were only available as "options" on Base model camaro's.

Most Berlinettas were PACKED full of extra options,.... like T-Tops and rear disk brakes, when most sport coupes are lucky to have any kind of optional equipment at all. (those who could not afford a brand new Z or Berlinetta would settle for a Sport coupe !)

Good luck on your test drive !!

You're assuming all that is still in good shape, though...
