? on 92 z28 convertible

I have a few questions on a 92 z28 convertible:

1. I know that about 1250 were made, but were they all the 305 limited 205 hp or the 230 hp version.

2. How much would you pay for the following:

92 z28 vert, 20k miles, auto, grey leather, pw, pl, power drivers seat, power mirrors, factory cd, 305 tpi auto, drums on back, 2.73 gears and the white with red stripe heritage package. Southern car. No orignal paperwork.

I am considering buying this car but don't know much about convertibles (never had one).

What are the pros and cons of convertibles vs. coupes??

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Manny

You had to get the manual tranny to get the 230hp engine. If I were into Camaro's I might pay around $5-6K for that one.......

Body flexes more than a coupe. Weld in SFC's cure most of this. Alston & Kenny Brown are the only two I know of that will fit a 'vert. If the top isn't lowered properly, (lower the windows a little first) can damage or break the spring tempered rods that flip one of the bows out of the way when lowering. The top won't lower properly then. Good news: A company called Top-Down Solutions is making new Flip Rods. Everything about the driving experience is enhanced when driving a 'vert. This includes the, sounds, smells, and visual parts of the experience. I've attached a link to another Heritage Edition 'vert for comparison. Pay careful attention to the interior trim pieces. It is important that they are all there and in good condition as they are difficult to replace and priced as if made from solid gold. The rear spoiler also fits into this category. Good luck, Lon.

Considering everything from the description you gave, I'd say that car would be able to ask just about any price the buyer chose. The KBB value based on the details you gave lists a retail value of over $9,500. Generally KBB is a bit high, but since we're dealing with VERY collectible car I'd say its very close to accurate.

The pro's of the convertible are rather simple. They hold their value over the coupes. They're more fun in nice weather, they get more attention. With the top down they're much more likely to be rattle free. The factory reinforcements to the body add to the rigidity making it a better riding and handling car then the coupes.

Con's? They're more expensive. Parts are harder to come buy. The inside is noisy with the top up. They're hotter in the summer and colder in the winter. They're more needy when it comes to care due to the top and hard to come by interior pieces. Etc...

If you want a daily driver, I'd stay away from a convertible. For a sunday driver in good weather only they're hard to beat.

Thanks for all the help guys!!!

Actually, that is the one I am considering to buy. It will be used as a weekend driver in nice weather.

I have already gotten all of the rpo's and just talked to the owner. He is willing to take $9k for it.

I might low ball him and offer $8k and see if he meets me halfway.

I will be doing some thinking this weekend!!!

Go for it man! That car sounds sweet. I love my 91' Rs. I does leak when it rains hard, but mine is kinda ragged with 160,000 thousand on it. Nothin' better than walkin' around with a 100mph top down afro .

Rob P,

I remember that somebody was making a registry of the 92 z verts. I will get that in the next day or two for you.

If I do not get it, I will let you guys know and give you all the rpo's, the owners number, etc.

Banks are closed on Monday (Veteran's day) so I will not find out until Tuesday from my banker.

I actually am a banker and get the "Old Car Price Guide" to look up collector vehicles. Many of the vehicles have gone up considerably. According to the Dec 2001 Edition #2 condition vehicle, (which this sounds to be close to) $11,900. Top mint undriven value up to $17,000. Also Kelly has limitation on low mileage adjustments. If you run kbb.com on that car with 20k, 30k, 40k and 50K miles, you will get the same value.
