B4C's
B4C's
I own a 92 B4C. I'm just wondering what
you guys know about them. Engine,
tranny, etc. I've done my homework on
them and I think that I know a good about
them but, I just wanted to make sure. If
there are any websites or books that you
can point me to it would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

Goo,
I own a 1992 B4C. I've done my homework also. You probably know the basics. The one thing that is incorrect is... the FAQs say that the B4C came with a 140 amp alternator, the correct rating is 105 amps. I have GM documents to back up my claim. Do you have any questions in particular?

Our Oregon State Police '92 B4C Camaro had a 124amp alternator on it when we got it. It looked factory, til I ran a SPID sheet and it said 105amp. They used a bracket and alternator from a Caprice, I could never figure out why the stock belt was so tight. Anyways, I think a lot of departments upgrade to the higher amp alternator setup depending on how much electrical stuff they are running. I think the 140amp stories are just a myth.

There is nothing different about the engine and tranny than a Z28 of the same year. I'm talking a Z28 with a 5.0 5-speed setup and a 5.7 A4 setup. They are the same engines, trannies, and computers. If you wanted something different, the 1LE Z28 is as different as it gets with it's suspension setup, and added touches.

One thing that was different regarding the transmisson was... There is no "kickdown" feature on the police package transmissions. What I mean by that is, at WOT won't kick down in to third gear. This enables you (the police) to cruise at high speeds in overdrive. Of course, since you have a 5 speed, this doesn't concern you. I can't remember where I read this, but I do remember it was a "reliable" source, such as magazine review of the B4Cs.
(i haven't had enough open road to test if it's true or not, california traffic.)
John.

One more thing. I am trying to restore it and i was wondering if you guys know where I can have a door sticker made. The one with all of the weights and stuff like that on it. Mine was painted over when the car was auctioned.
Thanks,
Gavin Mc
P.S. Any preferences on color. Some thing that goes with "spotlights."

I've got the fleet managers order booklet for the special service option camaros (B4C) from the fleet manager I bought mine from. I should maybe scan it and send it to this sites manager? it lists all possible available B4C (for '92) options. like engine (3.4 V6, 5.0 TPI, 5.7 TPI) and trans (T5 [3.4 and 5.0 only] and 4L60 [all]). mine has only 70K on the odometer. https://www.thirdgen.org/rides/index...ew&rideid=3980

the TTA guys are able to tell you what sequence production # thier cars are based on thier VIN (i.e. "I own #421 and #360...") since less than a total of 1000 B4C third gen's were made for those two years, does anyone know how we can do this?
Just a little info... the 105amp alternator is typical for all the L98 cars, and I would imagine the Lb9 cars also.
Additionally the 3.4L V6 wasn't available till 93 in the Fbody platform.
