no one has asked:
Why do you not want MAF? its not like its inferior, they went back to it on the 4th gens.

Actually if your doing a swap the 88 - 89 will give you the most power if you convert it to MAF..

OH, and before I forget, if you want a SD IROC, you HAVE to buy a 1990 car...

Because I have a procharger and a speed density setup in my garage with a tuned prom and everything. I just wanted to do a motor swap. Ive heard tuning SD is easier than MAF. Ve tables and stuff.

It's actually the opposite, MAF is easier to tune than SD and is more forgiving on upgrades such as cam, rocker arms for more lift, intakes etc etc because it relies on the MAF more than the MAP sensor which SD runs off of.

If thats all your doing is wanting to do a swap then there is no problem, other than the Throttle bodies and LH runners on 87-88 there identical to the 89-90, everything should swap over.

If you want the SD then just put it on.

The difference between the 85-88 setups is the Cold start injector, you can leave it unplugged and use it as a hole plug if your going to use the original runners. IF you use the 89+ style runners you NEED the 89+ Throttle body as the LH runner supplies the IAC for 85-88 cars, that tube feeds into the Cold Start Injector, but if you elimiate that then there is no problem.

ANY L98 should work in this case as there otherwise pretty much the same except for the electonics:

To recap
87 ~ 88 - Same
89 - Cold Start Injector removed and TB changed slightly
90 ~ 92 - Changed to SD. Otherwise the same as 1989.

Of course there were cam differences too from year to year.

Maf cars "learn"
SD cars adjust each time for what it is.

I bet a S/C would play tricks on a SD car.
