weird options?

Ok so I changed a fuel pump in my car the other day and noticed I have an aluminum driveshaft, and on another thread they said the 1le cars had baffles in the gas tank "It's got baffles that prevent fuel starvation during hard turns when you have 1/4 tank or less". I have the normal one piston front brakes and drum brakes on the rear. My car is a 1988 Trans Am with a 305 TPI and 700r4. Were thes seperate options that my car could have recieved or did the factory just throw some other parts in? What else did the 1le package come with?

This link should answer all your 1LE ?'s I'm glad my car wasn't a 1LE, because I'd feel bad about the "custom" things I've done to it. I do like the gas tank and drive line idea. I think i'm going carbon fiber when I upgrade the driveshaft. It's as strong and lighter. I want a 1LE tank though. Daniel U

all 1le's got the brake upgrade. And as far as the aluminum driveshaft it could have been swapped in in the last 18 years especially since 4th gen driveshafts bolt right in. I'm not sure which year it started but my 87 didnt have baffles and i swapped it in for a tank from a 92 because it was damaged and it does have baffles. Maybe 88 started with baffles my 88 i have no idea if it did or not. My guess would be yes because it can corner alot more than my 87 and if i have under 1/2 tank of gas in the 87 it used to sputter from fuel starvation. the 88 never has?

also in response to daniel. why go with CF? It's expensive and doesn't gain any significant hp over an aluminum one. Just stick with an aluminum one it'll save you about $650 and just get a safety loop if your worried about it messing up the car if it breaks.

The 1LE tanks also had a swinging fuel pick up that helps when hard cornering and you're low on fuel(.5 gal.)

JG1 – is the RPO for the optional Aluminum driveshaft. My '88 Trans Am has it too. It is similar equipped as yours. Aside from the Aluminum driveshaft, it also has the LB9 305 TPI, 700R4 and 2.73 gears.

JG1 aluminum driveshaft

Also to add to the confusion all '92 Z28's with the TPI 305 (LB9), manual trans. (M39), and t-tops (CC1) got an aluminum driveshaft as well.

Man I had a 85 camaro. I couldn't do a dounut to save my life. I had to keep cranking after I took a sharp turn. It was a carb motor though. Now the 87 with the tpi has had NO problems with it starving for fuel, unless you want to count the time I forgot to put gas in it. lol. The only thing I hate is how the stock gage dosen't stay in one spot. It moves every time the car moves. Adam :-)
