SS Thirdgen

I wasn't sure if this is the correct board for this, but I suppose it has to do with thirdgen history. Some guy in my neighborhood has a thirdgen that has all SS decals, and I know it wouldn’t be the first time someone has put on fake decals, but these look as factory original as my RS decals do. Also as I drive by eyeballing it, the car seems to have true dual exhaust, with the mufflers located where the cat would be, and another on the opposite side of the car. Everything appearance wise seems to be factory done. I was just wondering if this was maybe a concept or a limited edition type car. Judging by the gfx it is a late 80s early 90s car, and as far as I knew they were all Z28’s, RS’s or IROC’s during that year span. If someone could shed light on this I would appreciate it. Where I live GM has quite a strong presence, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the area had gotten a rare version of the car, since they do much of their testing near by.

Nope, there was no thirdgen SS and there was no thirdgen factory dual exhaust either There is a guy on these boards who has some pretty clean looking SS emblems on his car, I think they came off a SS silverado or something. If you know what you are doing you can make pretty much anything look factory done. I bet its still a cool car though!

Next time I go by I will take a pic of the emblems, they look literally as if you took an RS emblem, and just had another S in the place of the R, it has to be the best looking fabricated decal I have ever seen.

I found it strange that GM used SS on the Monte Carlos but never offered it on the Camaros of the same vintage. Perhaps that would have created too many models (SC, Berlinetta, Z-28, SS)

I think the badge was dropped for the Camaro after 73 and brought back in 97??

I was under that impression too, but this car has to be one of the most authentic looking SS "conversions" I suppose you could call it. If I see the guy outside his house sometime I will ask him where he bought the decals, because I haven't been able to find anything as original looking. Every-so-often though around where I live you can see strange vintages of cars, since the GM proving grounds are nearby.

A few years back aftermarket SS badges were available to replace the RS badges. S10 SS badges also are rumored to fit in the GFX cutouts.
