It would be interesting if someone has a source to decode everything for you.I know the AR9 is reclining front seats. But the rest I have no idea except, like you stated,it's codes for spring rate, brake type, stabilizer bar, wheel and tires-including spare. And then the plant code L = Van Nuys. The delivery location maybe the original ordering dealer.Just a guess.Hopefully someone can decode or give direction to where the info is.

Midwest Muscle has a post showing a similar build sheet from his '89 TTA.

I just noticed this thread too - What a coincidence. Under the seat seems a much more logical place than where I found mine ...

Under the front bumper area where the intercooler ducting starts, pinned down by a plastic rivet type connector. Any exposure to water would have destroyed it ...

This isn't too hard to decode ... although you will need to know some of the codes that came on the parts.

- 1FP87 is the model of the car
- "JL" is the steering box code (do a search)
- "NUY" is the spring code

Here is a page from a GM book for springs. You will see the code "NUY" and the front spring code "XU" (which is the last two letters).

I know which codes came on the Player's Race cars, but not all the general production ones. Interesting ... on the player's cars, this sheet has either "RACE" or "CANADIAN PLAYERS CAR" on the lower right. A cool find. Plus it confirms what options you had to have in order to be legal to race.

For a non-race car, this sheet is interesting as it lists which springs your car came with, shocks, etc. If you did want to match up the parts "exactly", this is key info. Although I think GM only sells one or two springs now, the larger list is discontinued.

I found the build sheet for my Formula under the carpet in the hatch.

Some strange places these guys put them in. I wonder if they did that on purpose.

It is a copy of a page I got as part of my racing info. Basically, GM Techs gave this to the Racers so they could fine tune their suspension. They needed to meet a minimum ride height and of course, they ensured they were exact at that.

There must be a master GM parts book out there that lists ALL of that. Someone one board may have access to it.

I think I have a 3 years of spring codes. Take a look at the bottom of the page and drop by your local GM dealer and see if they know what book it came from.

What you have there is what most people consider to be a 'build sheet'. Really, all it was for was to help the folks assembling your car on the assembly line to put the right parts into the car. Specifically this one was for the interior, more specifically the seats. They're usually stuffed between the seat foam and the springs on the bottom of the front seats. When the seats were assembled the worker could either shove them in the seat or toss em in a garbage can, or scribble a grocery list on the back and shove it in his/her pocket.

Theoretically there were several such sheets used by the workers at various stages along the line, and some find their way into the cars. Some are more usefull then others. The ones under the seats are usually still there, but they aren't worth digging for. The SPID is still the only list worth searching for since most of the others aren't going to be complete and aren't going to contain usefull codes.
